Gluskabe...

I've been thinking about him a lot lately, especially how I introduce him more thoroughly to my children. They used to have a tape of cousin Joe Bruchac's Abenaki tales, but it died a sad death. Cherokee's don't have a Gluskabe equivilant, so while Eric has spent most of his recent life as the father of Abenakis, he's still an atheist. How to actually explain Gluskabe when you're not fully convinced he's just a metaphor? Kinda like Santa Claus, I guess (how many white Christian parents admit that they honestly, truly don't believe in Kris Kringle?)

From my current standpoint, Gluskabe has been sleeping on the job, as our life has turned somewhat for the better. But I'm always on the awares these days. I suspect he'll eventually find us.
