WAMPUM retires. I am still rubbing my eyes, thinking it's a bad joke or something. Why is it that I expect those blogs that were here when I showed up to always be around? I know that's not how life works. Ah, change. But then, again, it is Spring.... [Read More]

You will be missed.
If your travels ever take you to Maryland please drop me a line. And if I can ever help with anything please let me know.
Take care

I have learned a tremendous amount from you. I do not wish you to go away. I would love to talk you out of this, but I also understand the urge to just say "Enough."
I hope you'll change your mind and continue here. If not, you're always welcome to guest post at UnSpace should you feel the need.
God bless and thank you.

Cool runnings, friends.
I hope to occasionally see you both dropping in for a comment here and there.
If you change your minds at any point, I'll be eager to start reading again.
Namaste.

much love and luck to you.

Quitting! Once again proving, as you did every time you posted, that you are way smarter than me -- indeed, than most of us.
Thanks for everything. Vaya con Dios.

Wow, its not a stretch for me to say that this blog had a big impact on my life. Without this blog, I would have missed out on a myriad of experiences, above all was house sitting with a case of Anchor IPA in the fridge and trying to figure out how to direct fields.
So long and fare the well, but not goodbye.
Posted by: tom | March 21, 2007 09:35 AM
Best wishes.

Oh, and that photo makes me want to as well.
Posted by: Chris Clarke | March 21, 2007 10:42 AM
Yes, but Chris, then the blogosphere would have a gaping wound, rather than just the moth hole arising from my absence ;-).
Posted by: MBW | March 21, 2007 10:59 AM
Damn it!
I understand the impulse, and cannot but accept your decision, but I am sorry to see your blog stop.

Will you be maintaining your archives, or will our links to your works die?
Posted by: Spartacus O'Neal | March 21, 2007 01:25 PM
q: maintain or not?
a: maintain.

Dwight,
Your password begins with a "G", not a "g".

Where did you get the blogoNarcan, and how can I get some?
Posted by: L.G. Fucktard | March 21, 2007 03:12 PM
Sorry, Medic-speak. Narcan.
So long, and thanks for all the Horse.

Be Easy! Hey is that a sunset I see you ridin' off to? Danke fur alles!
Posted by: T Ray | March 21, 2007 03:28 PM
Oh, gee... I'm sorry to hear this, for selfish reasons, of course. I've learned so much from you guys and have had my eyes opened over the years on a number of topics, but especially Native American ones.
Take care of yourselves, and smooth roads ahead, I hope.
Posted by: Nanette | March 21, 2007 03:37 PM
I am so sorry to hear this. I'm just a simple lurker, but wow what a wealth of information I have received here. So intelligent, so clear, information we cannot get anywhere else. Thank you and best wishes. I hope we hear your voice again soon. You will be missed.
Posted by: Mary in Wisconsin | March 21, 2007 03:43 PM
Oh, no! I just found you all recently! *sigh*
Be well, and thank you. Best wishes for all you do.
Posted by: Sylvia | March 21, 2007 03:58 PM
I just want to clarify - I'm the only one riding off into the sunset - Eric and Dwight are under no such obligation. I am just ready to move on to new non-blogtopia (y!sctp!) endeavors.
And thank you all for such a kind send off.
Posted by: MBW | March 21, 2007 07:32 PM
And I would have posted that clarification earlier, but I was off with my kids doing non-bloggy things! (Like driving across the desert to the Colorado River and back - and pretending we're pirates along the way.)
Posted by: MBW | March 21, 2007 07:36 PM
Another lurker here. Enjoy. Visit the campgrounds in Viejas if you get to the East San Diego County
area. Would also love to be of help if possible.

Congrats on your retirement, Mary Beth. If you can judge a woman by what people think of her, you're amazing. Put another way, I think you fucking rock. Have fun with whatever you do next.
Posted by: Ampersand | March 22, 2007 01:22 AM
Thanks, MBW, for all you've given us these past years. We're lucky. Enjoy what lies beyond the keyboard.
Posted by: pseudonymous in nc | March 22, 2007 03:22 AM
I can understand the impulse, enjoy your time and new endeavors. We will miss you but that is entirely not the problem of Colorado river pirates.
Posted by: Hawise | March 22, 2007 06:02 AM
Enjoy the change of pace - that pirate trip sounded like a lot of fun!! Here's to many, many more.
Posted by: eRobin | March 22, 2007 07:04 AM
Mahalo nui loa, a hui hou -- aloha oe.
Best wishes on your future endeavors.
Posted by: Rayne | March 22, 2007 11:30 AM
It's sucky, and probably suitably profound, that the first comment I leave here is to tell you I wish you wouldn't stop. But here's a note of appreciation from a lurker.
Posted by: rbabe | March 22, 2007 08:48 PM
So sad to see you go, but I understand.
Thanks for everything you've done.
Posted by: Oaktown Girl | March 22, 2007 09:36 PM
I am very sorry to see you go, Mary Beth - but I must say I'm not surprised. Best wishes, my dear - in everything. I hope your future’s so bright you have to wear shades!

Sorry to see you hang up your virtual spikes, MB. Where will I go to see the happy blog dance be done about Stephen Griles' guilty plea today?
Best of luck in all you do. Like everyone else here, I'll miss you.
Posted by: Charles Kuffner | March 23, 2007 09:19 AM
Best of luck; you will be sorely missed.

I can't say I know how you feel MB, but, I do have one piece of advice about retirement from writing on a blog - or anywhere for that matter.
Never say you'll retire. I see it only took 2 days before the itch to say something (I totally agree with - deleted bits included *sigh*) about Griles...
Took me all of 6 months, but I had plenty of harrowing distractions to keep me occupied.
As a wise writer who once tried to retire said (totally bad paraphrase warning ahead), it "caused my hair to fall out, I gained 35 lbs, and I ended up sick as a dog - then I grabbed the typewriter and was right again".
But if you can survive retirement, I wish you love and luck and all the joys of freedom from "the damned keyboard" - and while you're at it - tell me (tell us all) how you did it!
Peace...

So does that mean you'll be hanging out on the Moms List more? :-) Just askin'....

MB,
Just read the news via Avedon.
Thank you for years of good work. We'll miss you.

Wampum was one of the first blogs I read regularly. You impressed me, and I don't impress easily.
