No words to add, since I had better things to do than watch another speech from this liar, but I don't think "climate change" is a "neutered" phrase. I think it's the most accurate way to describe ever-more extreme fluctuations in weather patterns, particularly when trying to get one's point across to those idiots who counter, "If there's global warming how come it's the coldest January on record where I am?"

"Climate change" was a term coined by conservatives to replace the more scary sounding "global warming". Climate change sounds innocuous, even positive, as we've been conditioned in the US to believe that change is usually a good thing.

Global warming is just that - the planet is warming as a whole, though you might be experiencing a cold spell where you are. Check out Jeff Masters' latest post on the warming global temps here.

Actually, he did mention the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but referred to it as the 'Strategic Petroleum Reserve', which is the purpose for which it was originally set aside. He called for a doubling of the capacity there. Very sneaky, unethical, and short-sighted. As always.

The reserve is now more strategic from an ecological point of view than a petroleum point of view, primarily since it's a paltry amount of oil relative to US needs.

Fortunately, we have thus far been able to defeat repeated attempts to drill ANWR, by email barrage to both houses of Congress. Most of the folks who people the Hill seem to comprehend the large cost to benefit ratio of drilling ANWR, this despite relatively few mentions of how important some denizens inhabiting the Arctic Ocean ecosytems are to worldwide fisheries. Most folks just like Carribou, it seems.

Also, most people don't realize that the 'small percent' of areal drilling touted by those who would drill there is distributed most un-ecologically about the entire reserve.

CAFE Standards.

He mentioned "Fuel Standards" but this is not CAFE.

Oh, "Carbon" and "Cellulosic," though the latter is a little difficult to roll off the tongue, so that was just alluded to in the form of "agricultural wastes." You know... bull shit.
