John Kneuer confirmed
Yesterday the Senate confirmed John Kneuer to head the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), a division of the Commerce Department. The NTIA advises the White House on telecommunications policy and manages federal use of spectrum.
His prior work has been at Piper Rudnick where he was a senior associate, executive director for government relations at the Industrial Telecommunications Association, and as an attorney-adviser in the commercial wireless division of the FCC's Wireless Bureau.
He came to the NTIA in 2003 and has been the agency's acting chief since his nomination on May 1. He replaces Michael Gallagher, who left government service last December to join Perkins Coie, when the wiretap scandle became public, see It could be just coincidence .... Michael Gallagher in turn replaced Nancy Victory, who left government service after being burned by a lobbyist.
