Blackberry pie, yes! Blogging, uh, not so much....
I'm out at a Cal State park kiosk, where they have wi-fi access (for an additional price, of course), as I can't get the satellite pointed through the trees, once again. However, we're camped a few hundreds yards from the beach here at Fort Bragg, so I'm not complaining.
The girls and I just risked life, limb and knit clothing picking enough blackberries for tonight's pie. I am aghast that I my Fannie Farmer cookbook did not contain a recipe for such, so I'm out here Googling the basics. I've also got a lamb stew in the Le Creuset dutch oven bubbling away, and a fresh sourdough from the local crunchy market. Life is good.
We'll probably move to a more satellite friendly site tomorrow, when the park clears out of the weekend riff-raff. By Monday night, I suspect we'll be one of a handful left here. Mmmmm...more blackberries for us.
Sunday update: Found a hole in the canopy here, and I have to humbly admit, this by far the most difficult satellite pointing I've accomplished. Sadly for me, everyone else is off at the beach (the weather has turned absolutely gorgeous) and I'm stuck back in camp trying to get our DG08PAC FEC filings done (including re-entering a couple thousand records which were lost when my old laptop bit the big one.) My fingers are damned tired. Time for blackberry pie (anyone have recipe for blackberry wine?)

Almost any berry recipe should apply, I imagine the key item here is the sugar content of the berries. There should be some info on that out there, but it will vary somewhat. But there are ways to adjust the mix as it ferments, and of course it'll be interesting to do all that while rolling down the road too. Cheers & Good Luck, 'VJ'

I wouldn't have the patience to do wine in a trailer but just covering them in sugar and waiting for the juices to run while the pound cake bakes, umm. Pound cake and blackberry syrup is a good replacement.

I've got at least two (which, in this trailer is a huge number) of pound cakes mixes in the pantry (yes, we do have a pantry - I wouldn't have purchased the darned thing without one.) I completely agree - it's either blackberries and pound cake or more pie (which, I have to admit, turned out quite nice...yum.)

Fort Bragg! Cool! We stayed there over the summer when it was 118 here. Gorgeous and cool out there then. I bet it's a bit cooler there now that it's 70-ish here. Make sure you go to Mendocino too :)
And yum blackberries. There weren't very many that were ripe when we were there and the boys didn't like the seeds or the thorns. Ah yes, sensory issues.
