Three tenors

three_tenors.jpg

That's Vicente Fox and Stephen Harper flanking George W. Bush. The back-drop is one of two temple pyramids at Kukulcan. We can't tell from the photo whether these three mortals assended to the summit of the pyramid, drawing nearer the Heart of Heaven, and entered the temple, descending into the darkness were Tepeu and Gucumatz planned the creation, at a time when there was only the calm sea and the great expanse of the empty sky

I suspect they never left the simple plane of existance, being three very common men, and the limit of their wonders a "look at that" and the hope of avoiding a plotz moment while using a stairway incorrectly.

Meanwhile, in another universe altogether, Kenney Timmerman managed to journalistically place some former Soviet nuclear weapons packages in Iran. He reasoned that North Korea, having some several decades old single-stage inertia-guided Yankee-class boat inventory (the R-27 / SS-N-6), also had the warheads, which it sold as ballistic scrap to Tehran. This would require Moscow to have transfered operational nuclear weapons systems to Pongyang, and makes Pongyang's we're-having-an-atomic-baby reactor dance of most of the past decade wierdly pointless. It does however provide the central figure in the March of the Presidents (above) with another verse of "When Johnney goes bombing Iran".

The piece is not marked "April Fools", which adds to the subtle humor of using Jane's Defense Weekly to prove that penguins are ploting global warming. From News Hog via Cole.

Last year the gag was a half-dozen or so scrap cruise missle tubes, that could be glued onto a Scud ballistic missile tube, and decorated with sparkles and tempura paints. The Camel as a Strategic Weapon was lot of fun write, but the cleveratti who planted the original story, and replayed it at NBC, got paid. Of course, I got to do an art project with Grace, Sam, Jonah and Kezzie. Grace is partial to sparkles, and Jonah uses a prodigious quantity of weapons-grade paste, and given enough time and paint Sam will paint, layer upon layer, to and beyond the edges of the field. Kezzie rinses and repeats, resized to 3.

This year we'll do eggs, with vineger, lemon juice, crayons, wax, and dye, as Sam and Jonah are egg-safe, while talking about les poissons d'avril.

Oh. Least I forget. Le Monde published a poisson d'avril as a depeche (breaking news) this morning. The Clém, an obsolete aircraft carrier, is going to go up the Rhine, via Holland and Germany, to be broken up at a PME (small and medium business) in Alsase, and recycled as Peugots. Its fairly droll, and the reader is assumed to have followed the saga of the Clémenceau from Marseilles to Suez, or not, to Greece, or not, to India via Suez, or not, and back to Marseilles (via Suez!), all hinging on the question of whether it was military equipment or hazardous rubbish.
