Glenn Greenwald. Extremely, extremely well done. The post was important to bring out the original fear of the President's military powers, not the glorying in them which we see today.

BAGnewsNotes/Katrina Aftermath
In an increasingly visual world, and with the explosion of independent and populist media, it is my hope that photojournalists will ultimately achieve the kind of credit, exposure, distribution and compensation they they have so long and sorely deserved. As far as I know, only two of Alan Chin's incredible post-Katrina photos were made available to us through the MSM. These appeared in Newsweek. It is only by virtue of the 'sphere that the entire series is accessible. As a top photojournalist, Alan went to New Orleans on his own nickel. In doing so, he was not even slightly beholden to any media enterprise in taking this well trained and completely unvarnished look at this truly historic American shame. I am honored to be included with this wonderful group of writers, and I congratulate all the finalists. I'm a huge Digby fan, and I admire Berube. But I am voting for a post I had the honor of building with Alan Chin as my best blow against the media filter.

Is it mandatory to attach insults of the other finalists with one's vote? Because I can't think of a belittling thing to say about any of my colleagues here: each post was damned wonderful. I hope my vote counts despite my failure in that regard.
My vote: PZ Myers. The proper reverence to those who have gone before. Pharyngula. And it was a VERY tough call.

between kos and glenn greenwald.
One shows how are are ok with melting the
skin off children, the other shows how we
apparently feel ok with going back before
1776 and having a king again.
I should go with the king thing, because that
will hurt us more in the long run, but for SHEER
EGREGIOUS OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR **NOT IN MY NAME**
it has to be
Kos------burning the skin off children.
May God Almighty forgive us.

I vote for"BradBlog: Death Is Sexier Than Sex (to Ann Coulter) by Lydia Cornell
Lydia truly deserves to win the best post, she is a talented and insightful writer who has echoed many of our thoughts and feelings lately about what is going on in the world. I never pictured myself being a regular on a political blog, but I was deeply moved by many of Lydia's posts, she is a fantastic person that I respect greatly, as well as a powerful writer who has a gift for capturing and distilling the key issues that are both readily apparent as well as those that are lurking below the surface and not so apparent in these chaotic, polarizing and controversial times.Lydia is working extremly hard to get her voice heard and make the world a better place on many levels and as I stated before, if anyone deserves this award, its her.

i READ ONE OF THE funniest sentenceS I've read ANYWHERE in this post. THese are the wisest words about The Great Peacemakers teachings, the Antichrist in Bush, and the perversions of everything good and moral that leads to an insidious from of blonde storm-troooper Naziim . She captures the 4 most important things all together in one article . This post captures it all, and the pink panther too.

LYDIA CORNELL writes one of the most wittiest, dead-on, passionate, bewildered posts I've ever read that sums up everything wrong with the whole upside down Christian and Republican agenda. Michael Berube and Bob Geiger take my heart -- Chris Clarke and The Fat Lady Sings use language to pull me into those stories -- Digby and Glenn Greenwald engage my intellect by illuminating such important issues.
But the one I'm still thinking about today is PZ Myers' "The proper reverence". So that's it.

Greenwald channels Our Founders eloquently, passionately,
even reasonably in a time of unreason and this post
is an example of how his penetrating analysis and calm,
clear exposition may just have the power to rescue this
failing (failed?) experiment in government from the
brink of oblivion by reminding us of the Original
Vision, a tripartite structure "of, by, and for the
people," propagandizing for courage and integrity and
a righteous believe in the law, lex quondam et lex

An hour later, I was trying to make the impossible choice between Pharyngula and Unclaimed Territory. I was about to vote for Glenn Greenwald, but got pulled away by a kid emergency.
This morning, as I was posting my GG vote, my husband asked what I was doing; as explanation, I ended up rereading Chris' essay (which I had not done last night) out loud.

OMG this is so hard! Greenwald's is required reading. As is Digby. Berube's is about such beauty and humanity, it makes me joyous. I so wanted to give this to Sassy Texan for her also essential post.
Others told gripping stories or enlightening ideas as well.
But the one that I want 100% of America to see and consider is 'Melting the Skin off of Children' by Hunter, who gets my vote.

Proper Reverence is an excellent post adding what - MEANING! - to scientific findings, expanding the society of man and bringing family values to the now long dead.
Indeed I have sent this post's link to more than a few of the religious folk I know.
BTW, why not have Post a Comment at the top - rather than waiting for all the hoard to be downloaded?

Chris Clarke's "Life and Death" wins my vote. Part reminiscence, part bildungsroman, part tragedy, it is a quietly astonishing, wonderfully complex piece of work from a powerful writer.

my vote is for Lydia Cornell at Brad Blog as guest blogger. She wrote an amazing piece that really merits our attention. Death is Sexier than Sex, to Ann Coulter -- it speaks to the problem in our nation on a much larger level than Coulter.
Please read this piece. And try to understand how it feels to be a left-wing Christ follower (we are all embarrassed to call ourselves Christians these days, the right wing has so perverted Christ's teachings.
