Is it kosher to vote for myself? I didn't get a chance to do it in the semi-finals, because a "friend" commandeered my computer.
Anyway, it's been a real honor to make it this far, and while I wish the best of luck to the other finalists, I guess I also hope that they all lose. Just thought I'd be honest.
Because Goldy took down David Irons (an alleged mom-beating, resume lying-on, incompetent local GOoPer) and helped Ron Sims (a legend in WA) gain a third term in King county, making the Seattle area safe for democracy.
Also, the "Michael Brown, Arabian Horse Association exec" story was AMAZING.
Goldy has had a big impact on Washington State Politics over the last two years and he reports great stories every day that are informational and interesting.
Goldy and HorsesAss.org deserves this award. Thank you!
Gerald
Horses Ass, by far the leader in Pacific Northwest Politics and at times striving for higher ground (Brownie's scoop). Goldy has his work cut out for him with all of our 'pet trolls', but he stays the course and keeps things moving.
Well, while these other sites are quality and do great work, we've got to realize that Mark Nickolas created this site less than a year ago in a state as red as Kentucky, led by the next Senate Majority/Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and run by a corrupt Republican governor which he fights every step of the way. Our state Democratic Party is as ineffective as it is corrupt and we have one of the most uninspiring press corps you can imagine.
This site is important not just because it's well designed and informative and a great gathering place for political insiders and junkies, but because it is our only voice. It's the only entity that fights the Republican partisan power plays as well as own party's corruption and the inept media when they deserve it. Bluegrass Report is closely read by the insiders and the elected officials as well as the newsrooms. It's not just good. It's effective.
The blogs from Oregon, Massachusetts and New Jersey are terrific and very well done but remember that those states have strong Democratic Party structures, and most of those states have Democratic governors and senators as well as a strong majority of its congressman. Kentucky has Congressman Ben Chandler and that's it.

BluegrassReport.org - a blue site in a mostly Red State. Fortunately, I live in the bluest part of it, or at least the most liberal part of it. I agree with the other "Jeff" above on some, but not all, of what he wrote. And the differences I have have made for some interesting discussions on the blog. But "Jeff" above indicates that Albert B. Chandler, III is all we have, despite the fact that Mark's recent straw poll on the 2007 governor's race gave a many more candidates to consider besides our lone Democratic member in Washington.

MzNicky (a frequent contributer on the mistakenly attributed most humerous blog and most humerous post site Jesus General) is a fine example of a notman soldier, and she's fighting the good fight in the War On Women! Best of Luck!
Goldy has had a real impact on Washington state politics, from his start dishing out deserved ridicule to initiative-monger Tim Eyman, to his insightful coverage of the brutally contested governor's race and highly effective investigative reporting on the King County Executive race. He writes with wit, verve and heaps of steaming irreverance.

bluegrassreport.org is the best. A totally different perspective for Kentucky. Like a strong wind and a stiff broom for Ky politics. Keep up the great work Mark!!

Where better than BlueGrass Report to peruse the latest foibles of the politicians of the late, geat RED state of KY; to read of the daily bumbles of the Gang that Couldn't Govern Great, or; to ponder the latest wisdoms of the Reverend Doctor Governor and his Movement to Eradicate Other Than Bible-based Thought in KY.
Consider, just as an example, the marvelous story of the Republican politician who bemoaned that if, under KY's 'merit hire' law the 'most-qualified' applicant would get the job, "Then how will OUR people ever get hired?"
Not since Jim Varney has one Kentuckian brought so much amusement to so many!

The Bluegrass Report Because it is the truth. You don't really know what it means to those of us that live in the "reallity-based world" to have someone like Mark to keep us informed of the just plain stupidity that is our(?) government.
BlueOregon, hands down, cheers up. Nice design, good discussion, check it, check it, check it out. OK, not as good a name as Horse'sAss, but definitely a better blog.

Bluegrassreport.org gets my vote. It has opened up the back rooms and worked to get open transparent honest government from both sides. Thank you Mark.
BluegrassReport.org has made a dramatic influence on Ky. politics. This site is quoted by the main stream media more and more often.
This is the best site on the internet.
Bluegrassreport.org
This site stays on top of both Kentucky and National politics. Readers check this site for the latest updates on political happenings before they look to mainstream press. Way to go!
Mark Nickolas is an important new voice for the people of the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. As a brand new Candidate for State House of Representatives, I value a diverse array of media sources to ferret out the truth. Mark is a powerful advocate for women, people who live with low-incomes, workers, people who are discriminated against, and everyone deserving accessible, affordable health care. Kudos to bluegrassreport.org for speaking up and initiating important dialogue and action. You get my vote.

im for bluegrass report.if you want to see why the state of washington is so messed up,just take a look at the people who voted more than once.for horsesass.
Tennessee Guerilla Women are giving organization and a voice to progressives in TN. They have not only a national audience and participants but an international audience as well.
I hate blogs, but Attytood actually writes interesting shit. Seriously, if Attytood doesn't win -- and I did check out all the other blogs before writing this -- the Koufax Awards are a fucking joke.
Bluegrassreport.org gets my vote because thanks to Mark, we now have a vehicle for open, honest discussion about what has been behind closed doors for too long--KY State Government on both sides of the aisle. I appreciate Mark and BGR's efforts to throw light and intelligent discussion in an area so desperately in need of help.
Bluemassgroup is the best blog out there. Solid insights, good writing and a little bit of "insider" info. I know a lot of people in state and national politics and most of them visit the site at least once a day.
Bluegrassreport.org.....not only has it changed politics in Kentucky, it has had an influence on the entire nation by pushing Ken Lucas into the race for congress in Kentucky's 4th Congressional district.
Please cast my ballot for Bluegrass Report.org as the best state blog site.
I don't know how they are able to keep up with all the news at the local, state, and national levels the way that they do, but I really appreciate the way that they get it done in such a timely and professional manner.
Bluegrassreport.org
The best blog for the best--latest, accurate, incisive--news statewide. No kidding! This blog makes a difference daily in how we think and interpret the often arcane events that are reported in the local media: provides context and connectedness and point of view without either talking down to readers or engaging in obfuscating tirades. In essence, it complements the daily news fare in ways that make it comprehensible. It's what a blog at its best should be!
i'm a native kentuckian transplanted to alabama for grad school and since i've been gone bluegrassreport has been a godsend. and it seems to be causing that scary thing called accountability among our politicians. keep up the good work, mark.
When your state is small and your newspapers have decided that local politics "bores the readers," you either have Bluegrassreport.org or you cast your vote "informed" exclusively by political ads.
Bluegrassreport.org. It's much harder (and more rewarding) to be a blue beacon in a red state. How is a blog that applies to more than one state considered for the best state or local blog?
As a Louisvillian I must vote for the Bluegrass Report.
Their excellent post on Anthony Huff and his criminal enterprise saved me (Believe it or not I got a job with one of his "paper" companies and then saw your article. Needless to say I left in a hurry!). You guys are lifesavers!!!!

When your state is small and your newspapers have decided that local politics "bores the readers," you either have Bluegrassreport.org or you cast your vote "informed" exclusively by political ads.
