Guest Post -- Seth Davidson, Communications Director, Barbara Ann Radnofsky US Senate 2006
Please support Barbara Ann Radnofsky's Campaign for U.S. Senate in Texas.
1. Your support helps build a strong Democratic Party in Bush's backyard and challenges Republican hegemony by re-building the southern arm of the Democratic Party
The Democratic Party stands for tolerance and acceptance in so many matters. Barbara Ann's campaign has united the Democratic Party in Texas according to Chairman Charles Soechting. Your support gives the southern U.S. a reason to fight back against the iron-fisted rule of corruption and scandal characterized by DeLay and Hutchison.
2. Your support shines the spotlight on cronyism, corruption, and scandal
Hutchison is a rubberstamp for a profoundly unpopular president, and is closely tied to failed policies, cronyism, and the corruption that has dragged the most powerful member of the Republican leadership into court. She is tied to groups such as the Tigua tribe, who were defrauded by indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, and she has received money from defense contractor ADCS (responsible for the bribery and downfall of Duke Cunningham), and is tied to foreign oil interests, to Karl Rove and to Tom DeLay, whom she served most recently as chairwoman of his Houston fundraiser.
3. Your support forces Sen. Hutchison to spend money in Texas, and prevents her from using her campaign war chest to help defeat Democrats in close races in other states
Radnofsky is giving her opponent a real fight. She has raised over $725,000 in a grass-roots campaign and caused Sen. Hutchison to spend almost $1,000,000 in the first three quarters of this year alone as Hutchison tries
to paper over her anti-children, anti-seniors, anti-veterans, anti-women, anti-Texas voting record. The time and money she spends fighting for her political life here in Texas means she won't be playing tiebreaker in other
states with her truckloads of ill-gotten contributions.
4. Your support challenges those who believe government is only for the rich
Hutchison's budget bill increased insurance premiums and co-payments under Medicaid, attacking those who are strapped to pay for healthcare costs. This approach characterizes her heartless, anti-healthcare tenure in Congress.
5. Your support means standing up for the rule of law
Hutchison's budget bill greatly reduces enforcement of child support laws, letting deadbeat dads off the hook while children and struggling mothers pay the price. That price ultimately rests on the taxpayer's shoulders in the form of having more Americans receiving public assistance.
6. Your support means standing up for children
An economically healthy economy depends on healthy kids who become healthy and educated adults. Hutchison's attack on child care will slash 225,000 children from child care programs by 2010.
7. Your support means educated Americans who can compete globally
Hutchison's budget bill attacked students working to get an education by chopping $12.7 billion dollars in student loans over the next five years. America suffers with less-educated citizens, and the taxpayers pick up the
tab---again. After lying to Texans by promising repeatedly not to run for a third term, Sen. Hutchison broke her promise and announced that she would seek a third term. Supporting Radnofsky will ensure that, whether she wants to or not, Sen. Hutchison will keep her two-term promise.
8. Your support means a senator who won't turn her back on our veterans
Hutchison voted against providing an additional $500,000,000 for each fiscal year from 2006 through 2010 that would have been used for readjustment counseling, related mental health services, treatment and rehabilitative
services for veterans with mental illness, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use disorder. Supporting Radnofsky will mean that we honor our promises to our veterans. In an extraordinary statement to the people of
Texarkana, Hutchison explained that with "boots on the ground" a necessity in the war, equipment like Bradley Fighting Vehicles and up-armored vehicles will give Red River more workload in the future. "This war is going to last a long time," Hutchison promised.
