2005 Koufax Awards: Best Series
I have been conducting the Koufax Awards for four years now. The nominations for Best Series this year are by far the most far ranging and difficult to compile I have yet encountered. The nominations run the full range of subjects. We have nominations about Iraq and Katrina, of course. Other nominations include SCOTUS, Latoyia Figueroa, Jeff Gannon, John Bolton, bird flu, Jamie Berube, Zarqawi, lobster sex and many, many other topics. Please read and enjoy.
I am still looking for URLs to Norbizness' Annotated Presidential Comments. If you can help please drop me a line or leave a comment most anywhere on the site and I will add it to the list. Congratulations to all the nominees. We have now posted the nominations for 14of the 15 categories. While MB and Eric bask in the Florida sun, I will attempt to compile the last category (Best Bog, unsponsored division) and post the nominations soon. Once that is posted, all the categories will be opened for voting.
Comments open only for corrections and errata please. No votes just yet.
No matter what movable type says, I posted this not MB. All the blame is mine alone.

How on Earth will people decide how to vote. There's so much good stuff here.
Posted by: Roxanne | March 2, 2006 01:16 PM
Yes, the truth is that trying to decide on a "best series" or a "best post" or even a "best blog" is a fool's errand. It just can not be done by any objective metric. There are at least 6 nominations in this category that I think are best in their own way.
I am just glad that the decision is not up to me.
Posted by: dwight Meredith | March 2, 2006 01:22 PM
The best way to access it is by using this category. The core of the "series as a series" was actually in 2004 during the campaign season, though.
--- thanks very much. I added it to the list. It was the last URL of the hundreds I needed. I do not know why it was so hard for me to find. Dwight
Posted by: norbizness | March 2, 2006 03:32 PM
Wow - I am absolutely overwhelmed! Thanks so much. And I agree about how wonderful the work is. I am really enjoying reading everything.
I noticed the link for my nomination takes whoever's interested away from my blog. I have gathered everything together here in one place. Could you please update the link so people interested in reading my work will have an easier time of it?
Thank you - I cannot tell you how much this all means to me!
--- I added the direct link. I hope that helps. Dwight
Posted by: The Fat Lady Sings | March 2, 2006 04:02 PM
This may be a better link for my series than the Technorati Search: http://sciencepolitics.blogspot.com/2006/03/looking-for-politics-on-science-and.html
-- I added the link.

Among the missing: I nominated AdvisorJim, Confessions of a Former Dittohead, DailyKos, Carnacki, Got A Happy Story, DailyKos, and *me* (and so I don't feel overly self-promotional, a couple of other people did too) for Saturday Morning Garden Blogging, DailyKos.
So it's easier to find, I posted these in the December 17 nomination thread.
Posted by: Frankenoid | March 2, 2006 05:39 PM
Same boat as coturnix... the permalink for my "Lying for Jesus" series is thus:

Thanks.

Raybin at MLW, not MLF.
: )
fixed now; sorry. Why didn't spellchecker catch that? :> Dwight
Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor | March 2, 2006 10:52 PM
Any chance I can consolidate my two nominations into one, for general Judy Miller obsession? I'd add this post:
http://thenexthurrah.typepad.com/the_next_hurrah/2005/11/what_libby_want.html
And this one:

And this one:
http://thenexthurrah.typepad.com/the_next_hurrah/2005/07/is_this_judy_mi.html
And call it a day.
If I were so allowed.
---- Can Do. I will make the changes right now. Dwight

In a world dominated by the products of invertebrate copulation, it's a crying shame that this issue receives so little attention in the blogosphere.
PZ Myers for his series on sex. Invertebrate sex that is. Lobster sex Octopus sex Spider Kama Sutra Tentacle sex Tentacle sex, part deux, and Worm porn

I vote for The Fat Lady Sings. This series on Subic Bay was LOL funny and brought back memories from days long past as a West Pac sailor.
Posted by: George | March 4, 2006 01:50 PM
Scott Lemieux of Lawyers, Guns, and Money for his Supreme Court coverage
Posted by: Roxanne | March 4, 2006 02:02 PM
If a person votes for "PZ Myers for his series on sex," and only a regular expression vote counter sees it, does it make a sound?
Posted by: todd. | March 4, 2006 03:17 PM
Hi,
I would like to cast my vote for Living the Scientific Life for Birds in the News.

David Brins of Contrary Brin for the series on Modernism and Enlightement: Parts 1-10, 11-15, and 16-17

I'll vote for Katherine and me on the GRaham Amendment. Also, would it be possible to change the links for our torture and rendition stuff? The ones you have are sort of broken -- they lead to all kinds of off posts on haiku and stuff. (Thanks to Gray Farber for pointing this out to me.) Better ones are:
Torture: http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/torture_and_detention/index.html
Rendition: http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/maher_arar/index.html
Thanks for all your work.

The Talking Dog is always insightful, and
his interviews with detainees' lawyers have
caused a national outrage. Well, they're worth

I vote for Shakespeare's Sister for their work on the Downing Street Memos. Among other things, they were central to the formulation of the Big Brass Alliance. It went beyond coverage to organization, and that, to me, has greater significance when we are talking about a web log with a point of view. To write about something is one thing, but if you're going to have a point of view, as a Koufax Award implies you have, then to become a center for action as well as information takes things to 11.

I have to vote for Shakespeare's Sister for her passionate coverage of the Downing Street Memo. Her ass-kicking agitation on the memo is one of my fondest political memories of last year. Pam at Pam's House Blend, Smintheus at DKos, and everyone who joined the Big Brass Alliance should get well-deserved assists.
If I had a second vote, it would go to Michael Berube's wonderful series on Jamie.

Aetiology on pandemic flu
Posted by: Gina | March 5, 2006 02:01 PM
Armando at Daily Kos on SCOTUS (mostly because he was overlooked in nominations for long series on torture and opposing Gonzales).
Posted by: mcjoan | March 5, 2006 02:28 PM
firedoglake - plame, though I think any award should be shared with emptywheel of Last Hurrah. Their series kept this story front and center and they had, in my view, a profound effect on Major Media coverage of a huge story that cuts across and exposes just about every flaw in the Bush administration - all in one neat (though complex) little package.

I nominate Brad Blog for best series.
www.bradblog.com
For his writing on Diebold's attempts to crush democracy, one vote at a time.
Brad has scared Diebold so badly that there is a Diebold hack who has been posting furiously on Brad's blog, trying so hard to spread disinformation that it is funny, and encouraging.
Encouraging because Brad touched a sore spot, and he is
keeping the spotlight on Diebold and their democracy stealing voting machines.
As an almost victem of Diebold, I thank Brad from the bottom of my heart
for helping my state to hold Diebold accountable by reporting on them and informing the public. Diebold can't stand this kind of scrutiny.

David Neiwert of Orcinus for the "Unhinged, Unhonest"
Too many good things to chose from. Too many I missed. (I will didn't know David Brin [no "s"!] had a blog! What a series!) And others--such as Dhonig's Daily Pulse at My Left Wing--that amaze me for their sheer endurance, and cumulative value.
But this series never ceased to surprise and appall. Plus the sheer dedication to do something that no one else could or would do that so clearly needed to be done. There's a special blogger purity here that wins my vote.

Brad has persistently and fearlessly reported on this issue for years, starting back when only a handful of netroots investigators were willing to touch it with a ten-foot pole.
