Happy Kyoto Treaty Day!
How many people did Les Verts (Green Party in France) mobilize for a demonstration to mark the Year One anniversary of the Kyoto Treaty on Greenhouse Gases? The march route targets are the Naitonal Assembly, which needs to be reminded, according to Les Verts, of the duties of French, and European, signatories of the Kyoto Treaty, and the US Embassy, where allegorically at least, a corpulent Bush-appointee smokes a stogie the size of Brazil, and distains all Treaties, Kyoto or otherwise.
How many? Une quinzaine de personnes.
If the mercury stays below 32° today, it will be the first sub-zero 24 period the city of Milwaukee experiences this northern hemispheric "winter".
But there is no "global warming". We know that because our goverment tells us so.
I'm looking forward to Al Gore's new book. With luck I'll get a reviewer copy.

Hey wampum, I'm new to this blog via daou report.
anyway, let me say that I feel your pain to the nth degree. Here in Northern New England, this Winter has been exceptionally mild and non-snowy. Those that depend on the winter sports industry are taking a huge hit, as business has been way down. To wit: The sap in Vermont started to flow last month, and the ice on many lakes in New Hampshire has yet to freeze over!!
It's really starting to hit home that those of us in northern climes are going to have our lives and local inudstries tremedously affecting by climate chaos. As I recall, last Winter, Alaska had a historically mild Winter. This year, it's the upper Midwest, and Northern New England. Obviously, last Summer was dominated by the record hurricane season in the Gulf. Anomalous weather patterns are now routine.
The biggest problem, as you're probably aware, is that we have precious little little time to try to slam on the brakes as far as carbon emmissions, etc (I think they call it anthropogenic warming aka human-caused warmth), and the major industrial nations refuse to do anything meaningful about it. Minor voluntary targets will not get the job done, and that's aside from the fact that emissions are expected to grow significantly. Instead of slamming on the brakes, we're putting the pedal to the metal and are speeding up as our planet goes off the cliff.
My prediction: you can expect another active hurricane season this Summer, accompanied by a horrifying wildfire season in the southwestern US ( where they have rec'd very little precip all winter).
The bills are coming due, and our credit line is gone.

Another Daou Report reader here... in Dallas Texas.
Usually there is at least one or two ice storms that screw up Dallas traffic really badly. We're past "ice storm" season and there's been nary a flurry. When I first moved from Boston to Dallas in 1989, it got to -5°F in December. OK, that was record cold.
As sorry as I feel for the northerners missing their white winters, I'm dreading summer here in the southern midwest.
Oh, but there's no global warming. Let's all repeat that in unison.
