Anatomy of a News Bombshell
On Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at 6:36 AM ET, former Time Magazine White House correspondent John Dickerson posted a two-part article entitled, "Where's My Subpoena? Valerie Plame, Scooter Libby, and me."
At 6:45 AM (PST?) renowned Plamologist, ReddHedd of firedoglake, posted her take on Dickerson's article, Dickerson Speaks...And Drops Some Bombshells. From FDL's Haloscan comments, I imagine Redd actually posted it about 45 minutes earlier, around 10 AM EST. I first happened on the post around 10:35 AM EST, and opened this post at 10:49 AM EST (according to my original time stamp on MT.)
At around 10:45 AM, I searched Google News for Dickerson articles, and only came up with a recent match for his own Slate articles.
At 10:51 AM, I opened Technorati for the first time, Technorati indicated 1 hit for the term "John Dickerson", from Blog and Tan, who posted from George (EST) around 8:AM. It was obvious, however, that Technorati hadn't yet crawled ReddHedd's piece at FDL, as no link yet appeared.
So this is where I begin this blow-by-blow account to see if this bombshell does indeed have legs, both in the Blogosphere and the traditional media.
Updates to follow.
Update1: 11:17 AM (all times EST). Checked Josh Marshall, Atrios and Daily Kos. Nothing on the front pages, and nothing on the recommended list on DK. In fact, a check for a tag on Dickerson and a search of Dickerson on DK turned up 0 hits.
Through Google blog search, we find that Four Legs Good at Plush Life has now blogged FDL's piece (11:05 AM time stamp).
Update2: 11:43 AM, Technorati adds three new hits: The Plame Page, The Ruth Group, and born live love die. Nothing more on Google blog search or news.
Note: Some of FDLs commentors feel this isn't really much of a bombshell, that we already had much of this information - the only new interesting tidbit is the timing. I guess I haven't been paying enough attention, as it seems like a big deal to me. I'll keep updating anyway, as it will be a welcome break at times from compiling Koufax nominations posts.
Comments
I found it from a link at RISING HEGEMON. Great article. Great perspective on how the leak was hatched. Seems pretty important to me. It's a great read in its own right and an insight into how the story was spun.
