Dedicated to the memory of Robert C. Byrd
When I wrote EPP transport mapping for SMTP a pair of "Smart Newsreaders" were making fun of Senator Byrd's attempt to prevent a vote on the invasion of Iraq on NPR, then as now, Koolaid Public Radio. I put something in the draft.
AbstractThis document describes how to exchange EPP content using SMTP transport. The data is packaged using standard MIME content-types. Authentication and data security are obtained by using OpenPGP security body parts or Cryptographic Message Syntax (S/MIME). Authenticated acknowledgements make use of multipart/signed replies to the original SMTP message.DedicationDistribution of this document is unlimited.
This draft is dedicated to Robert C. Byrd, Senator from West Virginia.
That isn't the norm for how standards are produced in the IETF. We (continuously) (re-) invent the Internet. Our major "political" acts are things like deciding to ignore the NSA's strong expression of preference that no one be allowed to use strong cryptography (other than the NSA and its equivalents).
Tonight Robery C. Byrd's likeness comes down off of Wampum's sidebar. He's supporting Alito and he should be supporting Kerry. Its his watch.

I felt the same, and told him so. (Why can't the Dems take a
good look at their base, and support what we want?????????

I totally agree. I really don't know what he is thinking, especially given Alito's opposition to regulation (you know, something that might keep his West Virginia coal miner constituents safe).
Very disappointed in Byrd.
