My view of an Eschaton link event

One of the interesting properties of Atrios' readers is how close they are to the temporal present. This is visible in the decay function from peak. Ironically, one of the design goals of the web was asynchronous (temporally unbound), connectionless communication. Perhaps the blog mechanism isn't the best fit for this kind of user community, something along the lines of IM or chat with a circular buffer for state (recent memory) might do better.

Looks a lot like a Slashdot effect.
