I never was sure whether Law would have hushed things up so strenuously on his own. It seems very likely Pope JP told him to keep a lid on it.
I was surprised to hear that even in Ireland,and I don't mean where the protestants live, the regard for Catholic clergy is far from reverential in some quarters due to pedophile priests. In Boston, they are selling off church property and driving well meaning Catholics to other denominations. Why not just let these guys paint themselves into a corner of complete irrelevance to the times and complete hypocrisy? I won't miss 'em. But then I am not nor ever was of that faith.
