Koufax Voting Closed

The voting for the 2004 Koufax Awards is closed. I have out the calculator and the green eye shades. The winners will be announced in a couple of days.

Thanks to all who particpated.

Update: Hey guys, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but really, you can quit posting votes now.

2nd Update: Okay, it is clear that nothing I can say will stop you folks from posting votes. The votes may not count but what the heck, if you have something nice to say about one of the finalists, have at it.

Whoowhee!

Thanks for all the work Dwight!

Yeah, you guys rock. Thanks for all of your tireless work!

Y'all are crazy. I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Yes Susie, its true. After counting votes all day, I am convinced that whoever thought up this Koufax Award stuff should be shot.

Maybe next year, it could be an idea to spread out the voting so a different blog is responsible for each category?

I have a few things to say, in no particular order:

* Thanks you guyz for the hard work on these awards. Really. You should take a few days off to rest your eyes after this.

* Thanks to everybody who pitched in the make sure there was enough bandwidth available for the awards to continue.

* Dwight, I'm sure you look really sexy wearing green eye shade(s).

* Can't you close comments on the voting posts?

* Count all the votes! 'cept for the duplicate ones. Unless they were for me. Susie and Majikthese in particular clearly had an unfair advantage in getting more people to vote for them. Regardless, it was an honor just to have a chance to get my ass kicked.

* I demand a recount.

* I like Krisjan's suggestion. We have precedent with the Perranoskis. Maybe splitting up the awards will lessen the load on you and MB, and cause less trouble with bandwidth issues, and perhaps give greater exposure to some of the other blogs.

- Maybe you could take a page from the Oscars and have the previous year's winner "present" the award they won. In the case of the big guys (like Atrios), that could also heighten awareness about the awards. In the case of those who deserve wider recognition, they'll get to leverage their award and maybe gain that wider recog.

- Or some other mechanism that would spread the wealth. Perhaps runners-up in award categories host them. Or just go on a volunteer basis. Or something. Regardless, I think spreading out the voting will, while maybe drawing a bit of attention away from Wampum, will expand the awareness of other blogs, which is part of the point of Koufax, yes?

xoxoxo,

Hey, every vote should count :)

Robert: Every vote should count but when should they be counted? The election has to end sometime. Once the voting closes it is really unfair to count votes when supporters of some candidates are no longer voting while supporters of other candidates continue to leave comments.

In addition, once I counted the votes in a category, was it likely that I would go back to add votes that came in after the voting closed?

I hear that Nixon won in 1968. Can we still vote in that one?

As far as bandwidth in future years - this won't be a problem as we will be moving all the servers to a co-lo with a big, fat pipe once we move this summer. Eric's been running, gratis, the registrar business for his former partner, which has limited our flexibility (and our ISP choices for the nameserver), but once we move, that will all change and will be free to run as many bytes over our wires as we can fit.
