2004 Koufax Award Finalists For Best Single Issue Blog

We have narrowed a very competitive field to eleven finalists in the category of Best Single Issue Blog. Those eleven each have a reasonably narrow focus but, taken together, encompass a broad range of issues. The single issues of the finalists can be as broad as economics, the media, or the Middle East. It can also be as narrow as the criminal justice system of a single state or, indeed, the machinations of a single politician.

Each is deserving of being a finalist. Congratulations to all eleven. Please vote once for one of the following:

Confined Space (Workplace Health & Safety)

The Daily DeLay (Tom DeLay)

The Daily Howler (The Media)

Brad DeLong (Economics)

Grits for Breakfast (Texas Justice System)

Informed Comment (Middle East)

Media Matters (Media)

Orcinus (Domestic Terrorism)

W. David Stephenson (Homeland Security)

Talk Left (Criminal Law)

Trish Wilson (Family Law)

What Media Matters is doing is priceless. One vote here for Media Matters and sinner-turned saint David Brock.

A vote for Media Matters. The work done is important, and they do it well. And they've gotten some results.

May I please split my vote between "The Daily Howler" and "Informed Comment"?

Brad DeLong

double_curve.gif

Daily Howler.

He is long over due for the performance he has served. I would have have puked and given up a long time ago.

Keep going, Howler!

You are a treasure.

I'm not sure Somerby would care if he wins or not. But he's been carefully, thoughtfully, and yes, incomparably documenting the foibles of the media for seven long years. He deserves the recognition.

Tally one for

The Daily Howler

please.

Talk Left...no, wait - Orcinus....no - Talk Left....how about David Brock's place....no, no - we like Jeralyn's place the bestest....but, but our greatest find prezious was The Daily Howler; now what? Talk Left....Juan Cole? Talk Left. But we bought Dave's Neiwert's book?! OK...

I vote for Media Matters. The good professor has been a beacon in the darkness of the Bush War.

This is the hardest choice but I'll go with:

INFORMED COMMENT - Mr Cole has given me a remarkable insight into Iraq, the politics and how it affects the lives of the Iraqi people. He has always written back to me when emailed. A true gentleman, who truly cares about justice. If I lived in Ann Arbor, I would attend his classes, just to learn. Mr. Cole, at times, has said things in favor of U.S. policy. While I disagreed with him, he again wrote back and thanked me for my comments, but not in a patronizing way. He should have a column in every major, and minor, newspaper across this country. Talk Left is also very good.

double_curve.gif

The Daily Howler. Somerby does God's work day in and day out.

double_curve.gif

Media Matters for America

double_curve.gif

On second thought, I agree with the above that MMFA is NOT properly a blog. It's more an on-line resource. I will have to go with Juan Cole's Informed Comment.

double_curve.gif

Brad DeLong

double_curve.gif

I think Family Law is a resource you don't find anyplace else. I vote for that.

double_curve.gif

Daily Howler

double_curve.gif

my vote goes #2 Grits for Breakfast, for the completeness,
#3 - Media Matters -because it does,

#1 Orcinus - information I've seen nowhere else - keep it up. thanks

double_curve.gif

The Daily Howler: Simply put, indispensable. And incomparable.

double_curve.gif

My vote is for Trish Wilson's FAMILY LAW blog. It rocks. Thanks! Legion --

My vote is for Trish Wilson!

I have a great respect, for the excellent writing and research ,of Trish Wilson. Especially her work on the Family Law Issue.

The Family Law Issue is the MOST improtant "ignored" issue in this country.

Women are often prevented from protecting their children in Family Courts across America.

When women are denied their civil and human rights, their children are left without a voice.

I can't decide who's more important - Juan Cole, who cuts through the administration BS in Iraq and the Middle East generally; Bob Somerby, who cuts through the media BS that's deforming the country to the point where democracy itself is endangered; or Brad DeLong, who cuts through the BS that's working to drive 90% of us into the poor house.

Huh, I just surprised myself. The most important of these is Somerby. If he's successful, the DeLongs and Coles and Merritts and Neiwerts and all the rest will take up their rightful places and have the influence they deserve.

One vote for The Daily Howler.

Half each for Juan Cole and Howler. If this isn't possible then pretend DeLong voted for one and I for the other ;-) (it's just coincidence we wanted to vote the same way)
