Something new I learned today..

And from an article in the Washington Times, of all places.

Epidemiology missed the folate connection to neural tube defects, but clinical science established the link.

So says Dr. Elizabeth Mumpers, former Chief Resident in Pediatrics of the University of Virginia Medical Center and recently appointed as medical director of the Autism Research Institute in San Diego, in response to the assertion that the NIH and CDC have refuted an ethylmercury/autism connection through the use of epidemiological studies, while ignoring clinical studies supporting thimerosal's neurotoxicity.

Mumpers further explains the weakness in an epidemiological model. I highly recommend reading the entire interview.

I just found out this morning that there are 70,000 autistic persons in my state, and treatment for autism is not covered under private insurance or State insurance.

Great article, MB, thanks.
