Threats and Promises

Ben Edleman's anti-spyware site www.benedelman.org was the target of a 600MB/s ddos attack. This took down his site for two days this week. He's now hosted at ISC, where I've friends. You can read about it on eWeek.

In my geek's letter to Dr. Dean (via post, so somewhere in the snow drifts between Portland and Burlington) I mentioned the script kiddie ddos against Al Jazeera's web infrastructure at the beginning of the current barbarism, and pointed out that the size of "drone armies" is growing, and that the unsophisticates of 2002 may not be the threat to the campaigns against the political face of the military-industrial complex of 2006 or 2008.

I also mentioned in my geek's letter the increasing scope and sophistication of "phishing" scams, and the liklihood that web-based political fundrasing infrastructure will be as targeted as web-based banking infrastructure. You'll be glad to know that I ran both my harry eyeballs over the following snippet of code (and where it goes) from Marcos' site, so I think it is safe to use (for transactions smaller than a mortgage payment).

Contribution amount: $

My final unsollicited geek letter recommendation to the new Chair of the DNC is unlikely to pass the first sniff test. No, it is not of the form "hire me" or "party with Maine Abenakis". It begins "the single greatest threat reduction any campaign can make is ..." Your answers in comments. Remember, its in geek.

There's a PayPal link at the top of the page. That's for Wampum (our costs). Thanks in advance. oliwini
