I loved Bob Harris' travel journal - Bob's a great writer with an easy, evocative style that really brought the places and people he visited to life - but I'm going to have to go with Cheers & Jeers, by Bill in Portland, ME at Daily Kos. Cheers & Jeers is a daily visit for me, a bright light in dark times, and the community-within-a-community that's sprung up around it is truly amazing. Plus, Bill does scatlogical humor better than anyone. And he lives probably about fifteen minutes away from me. So, how could it be anyone else?

The first day of posting for this story caught my attention while I was trying to find some explanation for the puzzling twist in the Presidential election results as compared to the polls leading up to the vote on November 2, and the exit poll data. Cheers& Jeers by Bill in Portland Maine.

BIMP is Grand-Master of a large sub-community of DKos that shares political out-takes & commentary as well as topics as wide-ranging as toilets around the world to cute puppy pictures to dental woes. The community has seen each other through elections, deaths in our virtual family, and even a few births! WARNING: highly addictive; may cause entire communities to re-arrange their schedules just to be sure to catch the early postings. Guaranteed to sap your work productivity while building up wit & politcal snark-ablity.

I have recently discovered Steve Gilliard and give him my vote. I'm sorry I took so long to find him. His insights on colonialism are thought provoking. I give him a slight edge over Orcinicus.

Posted by: Don McCrery at February 14, 2005 07:32 PM

ARGH! Is this what people feel at the Academy 'round Oscar time?

I love Orcinus' series on pseudo-fascism but because I voted for him elsewhere, I'm gonna go with Eric's series on internment. What I hope he does one day is get them all in book form and call them "Fisking Michelle Malkin". I'd buy it --even after reading it all on the blog :)

Orcinus

Posted by: Zap at February 15, 2005 03:33 AM

Choosing between Orcinus' "Pseudo-Fascism" and Jesus' General's "Heterosexually Yours" letters is tough, simply because they're of such radically different nature. And I love the "Heterosexually Yours" letters; second-funniest part of Jesus' General's site.

But my vote here has to go with Orcinus: Pseudo-Fascism. If I had to choose one series for all Americans to read, it'd have to be historical context over satirical fun-poking.

Even though I love satirical fun-poking.
