We are finally ready to begin posting the finalists for the 2004 Koufax Awards.
We are sorry for the delay but the response has been overwhelming and it took some time to assemble and post the list of nominees and to count the votes for the finalists. I would be remiss if I did not mention that MB has done almost all of the heavy lifting this year. Thanks, MB.
It is an honor to be nominated for a Koufax. It is an even greater honor to be among the finalists. The competition was fierce in all categories and many deserving nominees had to be left out. I am always amused when votes include a comment such as “no doubt”, or “obviously.” I have great doubt in each and every category. It is never obvious to me. The quality and depth of the left of blogtopia ( ysitp) is just astounding.
The posts that follow identify 8-10 finalists in each category. The finalists have been chosen by their readers and peers as the very best of the left. Congratulations to all.
The winner in each category will be determined by the vote among the finalists. Please vote once in each category. It helps us a great deal if you make your choice clear. It is fine to list your favorite writers (after all, the purpose of these awards to provide an opportunity to say nice things about others), but please specify how you wish your vote to be recorded. Also, we don’t do fractions.
I should have the finalists posted for each category in the next day or so. The voting will remain open until Friday week. I will try to do the counts over the weekend and post the winners early the next week.
Thanks to all who participated. Our congratulations go out to all nominees and especially to all finalists. Please, let’s not take winning and losing too seriously.
I'm sure I express the feelings of many, many readers when I say thank you to all three of you for all your time and work in making Koufax awards a reality.

The entire blog, with its hilarious comments sections, keeps me laughing harder and longer than anything else has in years!
Jesus's General is a close second, because the antidote for all the toxic hypocrisy being tossed around by our "Christian leaders" truly is good old-fashioned bellylaughing. "Heterosexually yours" is a perfect description of their agenda.
Thank you for the Koufax Awards themselves, combining self-deprecating humor with one of our most cherished of American sports. What a thrill for people who saw Sandy play, to know that others still honor this iconic athlete as well.

for Most Humorous Post/s--the new MichaelBerube blog (from the Penn State Prof,) for his murderously sarcastic "coverage" of the RNC Presidential Nominating Convention in NYC this past summer.
Berube rises often to the most arcane heights of suicidal Pagan warriordom, mixed with the obscure insularity of the Academe...in short, his explanation of why i should love Arnie, and how the twins' speech was actually very well done and perfectly written, restored my sanity via some kind of Black Magic i do not even understand (and i eagerly await the seminar to be offered on this topic at next years' MLA: "Remote Sanity Restoration through Insular Egg-head Literature and the Wiccan Arts.")
i actually printed those entries and gave them to friends. they were that good. i laughed out loud in front of people, and my heart was made happy, if only for a few golden minutes!
