February 10, 2005 October is Koufax Pledge Drive month

2004 Koufax Award Finalists for Best Blog

We have nine finalists for Best Blog (by a non-professional). Those nine have been chosen as the best overall blogs of 2004 by their readers and by their peers. They were chosen from a select group of more then 70 nominated blogs which, in turn, were chosen from the many hundreds (thousands?) of lefty sites.

The finalists represent the very best of a very large universe. Each is deserving of recognition and respect. Only one can win. That is, perhaps, a shame.

Please vote one time for one of the following.

All Spin Zone

Baghdad Burning

Brad Blog

Daily Kos

Eschaton

Hullabaloo

Rittenhouse Review

Steve Gilliard

Suburban Guerrilla

The Eagles may have lost but there are at least three Philadelphia bloggers on that list. That should be some consolation to the City of Brotherly Love.

If anyone thinks the choice is easy among that group of talent, I envy you your certainty. Congratulations to all finalists. Please vote by comment or email.

Daily Kos

Posted by: sele at February 11, 2005 08:32 AM

Well, I am a Kossian, but I like it because of the Diaries, not because I particularly care what Kos has to say. I think of it as a Forum more than a blog, no matter how much Markos protests and think it's his blog. Thus, my vote goes to Digby's Hullaballoo.

This site has done more to educate me in the past year than 15 years of formal education did.

Not only do we get the amazing Markos, but the site gives us the always informative, sometimes humorous, and ever passionate writings of so many others - Armando, SusanHu, Georgia10, DD, MSOC, BIPM, MB, Page, and the list goes on.

Without Dailykos this past year I would have given up on this country.

tough call between river & digby for the writing, kos and atrios for the community, and steve-o for the brilliant bile. i have to say i waste my time more at atrios' place than anywhere else, and i commiserate with steve's posts almost as much, but for sheer scintillating wit digby has to take this particular prize. sure is tough to call though. if there's a runner-up prize give it to river. i forget, is there a separate category for "best online community"? if there is, that would be atrios' place.

The biggest reasons are the community moderation and the constant innovation in the way the site works to build community. I like what Markos writes for the most part, and think his brevity and summaries are terrific. Many of the front-page regular posters are also excellent.

Members of the dKos community have effectively taken on issues as investigative journalists, researchers, and activists. dKos is proving that blogs and bloggers can make a real difference in the world.

Daily Kos should win Most Valuable Blog, or Most Important Blog for the contributions to the genre in general. The diaries, 'kos himself, the interaction among readers. All of those factors combined revolutionized the medium, and it still remains unique. Kos deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award for his accomplishments.

But Best Blog? Hmmm... This is a tough call. For pure post-by-post quality of writing? It's Digby, and that's who I was going to vote for. But I can't ignore all that I just typed out about Kos.

Final verdict: Daily Kos.

Brad Blog with the very brave Whistleblower Clinon Curtis narravive and legal documents - Mr. Curtis is going up against the very powerful Rep. Feeney, now on the Judiciary Committee for trying to involve Mr. Clinton in voting machine fraud.

Had been constant visitor to Redefeatbush.com which is now left.com "What's left of the center."

I admire David Lytell and saw how hard he worked and kept things together at the Rally giving support to Senators to refuse to certify this massively fraudulent Presidential election. David Lytell, along with the rest of us were very disappointed by the fact that only Sen. Boxer voted against and appreciate the 30 Representatives who voted against certification including the awesome and courageous Rep. Conyers who was a House Judiciary Watergate attorney and helped rid us of Nixon. I hope he will eventually have sweet success at saving us from the suicidal and murderous bush regime.

Please visit Greens Recount site, without their very dedicated work on a shoestring after the turncoat Kerry refused to use the $51 million he had raised 10 days before the "election" with very hard sell on using these funds "to count every vote." then sat on that money as he did the $15 million in his general election campaign leftovers to make sure that people did not have much to spend on a recount but the Greens were champions.

Don't forget them in their hour of need with viscious and personal lawsuits by the very corrupt Jim Petro, Ohio Attorney General.

Eschaton! The indispensable blog. He covers everything, is generally first, and his instincts always let me know exactly the difference between right and wrong. He identifies the issues and leads through the darkness with wit and wisdom, often using phrases and terminology that become the standard. Unlike the wonderful Kos, his focus is not that of a party activist, but of a citizen activist monitoring and often leading an emerging discussion.

Daily Kos, no question.

I think it's a mistake not to have accepted nominations for Best Group Blog -- but if being in that category PRECLUDES being in Best Blog, then Kos made the right choice. I dunno -- is that the case? One or the other?

I'd vote for Daily Kos in either or both categories, regardless.

Honourable mention, of course, to the exquisitely painful and honest and illuminating Baghdad Burning.

If you want to know what is really going on - and make sure what you are reading is really factually correct - read the Brad Blog. The items reported are what is just breaking. And Brad stays with a story all the way as new developments occur. Brad Blog All the Way!
