Posted by: Lee at January 28, 2005 08:48 PMI read many of these when originally blogged, so I concentrated on a few that really stuck with me. I keep coming back to both of Cranium's posts at All Spin Zone. The guy is amazing when inspired. I can't pick one above the other, but if you're twisting my arm, I'll go with Wounds That Don't Heal. As I said in my comment in the previous thread, Cranium out-digby's Digby.
(and here's another one from the other day that just blew me the hell away.)
Balanced angst is a wonderful and poetic thang.

Posted by: Amy at February 1, 2005 09:01 PMMuch as I love Billmon (and wish he would actually write some stuff instead of this tantalizing quote-juxtaposition thing he's got going on currently), I'd have to go with "Our Savage Numbness", by Bob Harris guesting at TMW. For the reasons that Amy gives, above, and so many more.

As we've seen in the recent election, and see in so many other ways, much of the so-called 'conservative' revolution is going on semi-or-very quietly under the surface of elective politics. The grand attack on modern liberalism (modern rationalism, in fact) is hardly limited to trying to win elections. This piece enumerates what we have to lose, both in academia itself, and by extension in the world, to this new 'thought police' initiative in higher education.
