Senator Barbara Boxer stood up alone in the United States Senate. She made a straightforward, short speech saying that she was for honest elections, which is why she was putting aside her already minimal comfort in the US Senate. If there is a century ahead of ours, she has done a thing that people 100 years from now can be proud of.We have come to a point in our pious, pompous history - not the first time-when being down for honest elections is a tough thing to do and say. I note also that it is women, Tubbs-Jones and Boxer, who have shown the class and the guts to lead out on this.
Senator Boxer's already getting flooded with hate mail and the usual conservative forces are gunning for her politically.
We need to thank her profusely. Would you please take 3 minutes from your day today, think of something you want to say - a simple "thank you" is adequate - write it on paper, put it in an envelope, stamp it, seal it and mail it?

I worked for Barbara briefly some years ago. I know from experience that this will encourage her and make a huge difference. She may reap further benefits - invitations to talk to college students about democracy - that will benefit us all if we do this. Thank you. And do please pass this along. The whole world actually is watching.

Please do this.
The wingnuts on the right, the ones who actually want civil war, or to dance on the brink of social rupture, and who can't imagine themselves in any role other than friend-of-the-the-trigger-men, are gunning for Senator Boxer now.
Barbara Boxer's action yesterday was historic. Like Barbara Lee (D Berkeley), who voted against the Authorization for Use of Military Force on September 14th, 2001. This is the stuff that history is made of. The Right Stuff.

Posted by: Richard Cranium at January 8, 2005 11:46 PMI had set aside this weekend to compose letters to my congresscritters and after the events of last week the first letter I wrote was to Sen. Boxer. And I'll be sending one snail mail to Rep. Tubbs Jones tomorrow. We have to reward our Democratic elected officials every time they stand up for us.
