Much to my regret, my first post of 2005 must be in the form of an apology.
To Wampum readers, I apologize for the lack of posts. While Eric and MB have been doing yeomen’s work, I have not held up my end in recent weeks. A number of events have conspired to cause my absence. First, the Holidays intruded. We had a house full of extended family and had a wonderful time but it was hard to find a moment to read, much less write.
Secondly, I seem to be cursed by the technology gods. With four computers in the house (two PCs and two laptops), it would not seem to be much of a feat to keep at least one working machine. Alas, it has been beyond my capabilities. I now have one working PC and one working laptop. I hope that is enough for the immediate future.
One of the great joys of being a practicing lawyer is that I get to learn a whole lot about a wide variety of very narrow slices of life. I have had a very short window of time in which to learn a lot about real estate markets in central North Carolina, the details of the work of a certain 17th century Spanish painter, and twenty-five alternative methods of sewage disposal. That has left little time for computer repair or writing.
I also need to apologize to the Koufax e-mailers. The nominations you emailed to me were stored on the hard drive of my PC as well as on the hard drive of my laptop. The laptop seems to have suffered permanent death and I had to replace the hard drive of the PC (hard drives are not designed to survive when an autistic compulsion causes the computer to be turned on and off many hundreds of times without allowing the drive to stop spinning). Your e-mails have been lost. If the blog you nominated is not listed in the appropriate post, please resend your email, leave a comment, or email MB at the address listed to the right. I will try to fix whatever harm has been done.
My third apology goes out to my co-bloggers, Eric and MB. I left them in the lurch at just the wrong time with a mountain of Koufax Award work to do. Sorry, guys. I will try to make it up to you in the next round.
My final, and most important, apology is to my One True Love. I am sorry for being three days late in publicly wishing her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
I hope that all will forgive me. I plan to post something substantive soon.
To err is human, to forgive, divine.
Actually no apologies needed, as no sin has been committed. Now, get back to work! ;-)

And nothing to forgive on this front. We were happy to help, as you have done many a time.
Posted by: MB at January 7, 2005 07:36 PMWelcome back, Dwight. Is it true that after three days, visiting in-laws and merciless hard drive demons put off a most churlish aroma?
