This category seeks to recognize the best writing by a lefty blogger, at one or more blogs. In most cases, individuals were nominated; in a few cases, entire group blogs. I've included both, as we didn't actual specify it had to be the former.
Once again, one vote per person. The categories from now on get a lot tougher to organize, so please be patient.

And what's with people nominating whomever they can come up with?
Folks, there is a difference between a good blog and a blog with good writing (although sadly, the late Whiskey Bar used to be both).

1) Get a Mac.
2) For that particular fancy-pants accent, type opt-e and then e. Like this: é.
[You can do this on a PC too, but you have to memorize some stupid, arcane ALT-XXXX number combination for each accent. Just Google it if you really want to know.]

OK. Random Thoughts on Politics. Smooth, thoughtful, personal when it's warranted, and beautifully structured posts. She's not the phrase-maker some are but she's consistently excellent and her writing flows like electricity from a transformer.
For the record: Tie with Digby. Provocative thinker, ept with a phrase. Not as smooth or organized or consistent as RTOP, but his passion and power when he's on top of his game is unrivaled by anyone.
Jeez, this is like asking me if Mickey Mantle was a better hitter than Hank Aaron or Rocky Marciano was a better boxer than Muhammad Ali.

Posted by: Nur al-Cubicle at January 13, 2005 12:27 AMCorrente's The Farmer. His account of his and Pete the Deer's vanquishment of The Devil, is a classic of American storytelling in the grand Twainian manner. And when I Commented about the possibility that (a) their Opponent might have been the JERSEY Devil and (b) Pete might consider dating human females, The Farmer set me straight me with tolerant graciousness. A genius and a gentleman.

Posted by: Maria at January 17, 2005 11:36 PMDigby at hullabaloo - sustained excellence - see 1/17/05 for one example - and billmon is on hiatus, or it would have been a tougher choice.

Posted by: puddleriver at January 18, 2005 12:43 AMThis is tough as I have so many that I like but this year I'm going to have to say the farmer.

Posted by: Chumley at January 18, 2005 10:38 AMimossible category, truly impossible. Berube was a fav writer of mine before most of you ever heard of him; who compares with Jim Wolcott among the pros; Digby has always been extraordinary.
But I'm going to go with the farmer, for his unique combination of the graphic, in words and pictures, while managing to be a damn fine and unique writer.
Posted by: Leah A at January 18, 2005 12:52 PMfarmer, although it was a hard choice between him and rude pundit.

There are so many here who I admire, and who get my regular attention, but D@H has been, this year, the most incisive and penetrating, and accurate - and he runs long, which I value. Credit (and Awards!) where credit is due.
Damn, you know you have wealth when you have to choose among your riches! Fuck Powerline!
