January 06, 2005 October is Koufax Pledge Drive month

The Koufax Awards: Best Single Issue Blog

This category is for blogs that focus exclusively or almost exclusively on a single specific area such as politics, economics, law, etc. It is not the same as "expert", as you can focus on an area, yet not really be an expert (a la me and my armchair economics fetish.) However, some "experts" will also fall into this category as well.

This was one of the harder categories to put together, as it was not always easy to discern the single "issue" of a particular blog, so please let me know if I erred in my research.

Once again, one vote per person. Merci.

Gotta go with Brad DeLong.

Bob Somerby is just like David Neiwert, incomparable. But the idea that the media is a repugnant pack of slavering idiots and partisan stooges has become widespread. When I talk to lefties in general, mere mention of the media elicits a sad shake of the head. Many of these same people will repeat the administration's economic spin, verbatim.

Brad tirelessly does what desperately needs doing, as only a straight-up polymath can. If there's any increase in readership that comes with these awards, it should go to him.

Posted by: David Yaseen at January 6, 2005 06:11 PM

Panda's Thumb has (nearly) exclucive focus on the threat of teaching creationism as if it were science. This is my vote for PT.

The Iraq War Was Wrong blog is the best one! It's also (decidedly) a Single Issue blog!

I see a lot of people vote for Orcinus, but as one of the commentators here said "I don't know if I totally agree that it's a single issue blog, but Orcinus is great". Not a "single issue blog", so however great or not it may be, it is undeserving (hope we all agree).

TRISH WILSON AND FAMILY LAW = PERIOD. And I echo Ms. Kane's assessment: 'Tis THE single most UNcovered area in media AND IN ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF LIVING LIFE DAY AFTER DAY -- TODAY: MOTHERS suddenly NOT being mothers in the manner THEY'D CHOSEN TO BE ... ANYMORE. WILSON's BLOG has it = ON THE MARK.

Soooo hard to choose!

Alas, Feministe, Echidne and Trish Wilson are all quality daily reads for me.

Forced to pick but one, I'll plump for Trish Wilson - for covering family law issues that often escape other bloggers and for sheer tenacity in the face of vitriolic trolls.

Posted by: Spicy at January 8, 2005 06:17 AM

Fight to Survive - all hail to bloggers who are prepared to put their butts on the line to blog.
Their most recent post says Shit’s going down. They’re on to us so I'm not too sure how much longer they are going to be around.

Former-soldiers?? Am I missing something? Why are they wearing body armour and talking about "if we get out?"

Just in case they are an ex-blog my reserve nomination is Empire Notes, since I've already voted for Baghdad Burning for best NP blog

Abu Aardvark, without question.

Trish Wilson gets my vote because she provides me with quick information on family law so I can better explain to my husband why I am so careful with his bedridden mother who is a pain in the ass.

Ours should be government of the people, by the people, for the people. Mr. DeLay, and too many of his party, feel that goverment is for their personal benefit, their personal agenda, their party, and they perform their duties in that vein. Unfortunately, that means government for the wealthy and the powerful, to the detriment of most others, particularly those not in a position to defend themselves from the abuses of power.

Posted by: Ann Weissman at January 11, 2005 12:38 PM

I voted for Daily Delay blog because "a working" Democracy needs open discussion of good, bad, and ugly people who run the country. Unfortunately, some are ugly, uglier, and ugliest who believe since they make the law, it should be for their own single-personal benefit vs. the benefit of the society. If memory serves me correctly, that is a definition of a dictatorship. Also, Mr. DeLay's deeds had a national side-effect which made it a national issue vs. a Texas politic issue. This blog allowed for a national exposure of such issues and give it the visibility it needed.

My vote is for the Daily DeLay. Criminals in high office must get exposed!

Posted by: Amy Harlib at January 11, 2005 05:46 PM

The Daily Delay blog blows the roof off of the house of the skankiest member of Congress, and enlightening the public about this festering cold sore can only be a good thing. Let's all join in and bring this asswipe down.

Baghdad Burning. Riverbend breaks your heart with every post.

Posted by: N in Seattle at January 11, 2005 06:20 PM

Tough call! I'm going to have to go with WarandPiece. Excellent analysis. I love reading Baghdad Burning to get insight to what's going on in Iraq, but Laura Rosen's site is incredibly informative and insightful.

Posted by: CoastalSage at January 11, 2005 06:43 PM

The Daily Delay gets my vote! It's purpose and methods are a 'key' to restoring truth, honesty, and democracy to our "house on fire".

After hearing him speak on CNN about the Challenge
to the Electoral college vote, I realized that this
is no ordinary man. I'm not saying he is a vampire or anything of the sorts, but suggest those in Washington or in his presence, carry garlic, a cross, etc.

My vote is for Daily DeLay. This site has been instrumental (along with other organizations) in encouraging voters to pressure their legislators to change their behaviour. Moving people to action is something we need more of.

As thrilled as I, and all of us at Fight to Survive are to be nominated for this award, I hate to inform you that you have as listed as "former soldiers." This is (unfortunately) wrong. We are all still active service, and sadly, still in Iraq. Our fight continues everyday. This site is not posted in retrospect. It is an active analysis of the life we're living today. With all due respect, if you can change the above link to reflect this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd like people to understand the risk we're taking to let the truth be known. Thank you.
