December 29, 2004 October is Koufax Pledge Drive month

Upping the ante...

Watching the CBC right now (remember, we live in Maine, with Canadians on three sides), and Canada has increased it's aid contribution by ten-fold to $40 million.

As I mentioned previously, Canada's population is one-tenth that of the US. But then, with the falling US dollar, if we wait a few weeks, Bush can argue the US contribution of $35 million is actually the same as Ottawa's pledge.

Note: At this point, I no longer care if this turns into a pissing contest, with sundry countries attempting to outdo each other. No matter the amount, it will barely make a dent in that which is needed for years to come.

There is some irony in that the CBC just interviewed the head of the Conservatives, who complained that Martin's refusal to return from his vacation in Morocco indicates that he doesn't really care about the crisis. Obviously, there's no communication between the wingnuts in US and Canada, with Bush continuing his bicycling and brush-clearing in Crawford.

Actually, I think a pissing contest is something we should try and encourage. It will be good for those in desperate need, and it is far better to have a pissing contest on charity than one on tanks and guns.

For people who wish to compare relative aid donations per capita, I've done a quick and dirty table.

LOL.

I think MB that Mr. Harper is counting on the fact that Canadians wouldn't know that Mr. Bush is nicely settled in at Crawford. Or if they did, that they'd point it out to him for equal consideration.

Smart catch though.

Perhaps Harper has internalized the idea that Paul Martin is not an incompetent boob better kept away from the levers of power by vacations during world crises and thus sees no contradiction?

Someone said once- with all the time Bush has spent at his Crawford "ranch", how can there be any brush left to clear?
