More on Not Seeking the Treasure...

Oh Brother, Where Art Thou is in fact one of my favorite films, both because I love the Coen Brothers and the soundtrack is just the bees knees. So I wasn't surprised when Eric use one of the more memorable lines from the film:

Do...not...seek... the Treasure.

Many readers, including some of my friends, may be honored to be chosen for a Wizbang Weblog award. And I can't speak for my cohosts, including Dwight, who is friends with Wizbang's proprietor, but I am not among the flattered. I have a hard time with a blog whose TOS states that trashing of any particular blog is grounds for deletion and IP banning, but allows this garbage to proliferate:

LGF is the best blog of the year, not only for Americans but for non-americans as well. Cause Islam is the whole free world's enemy, not only America's. Islam can't coexist with other religions anywhere in the world. See what happens in India, Thailand, China, Nigeria, Russia, Lebanon, Egypt (copts), Indonesia and the Netherlands, not to mention Israel. Whats have those countries in common? They'are being targetted by global Jihad and people are being killed. After 9-11 Americans must be sure Islam is on its way to destroy you, unless you wake up and rally behind your president to win the war. Yes LGF is the best blog, by far. We must thank Charles for speaking clear about the diabolic and totalitarian nature nature of Islam.

Moreover, maybe I'm a tad more sensitive than the average white-bread Joe, but having a bunch of conservatives line up the liberal beauty queen contestants is like having a bunch of whites determine what it means to be a "real Indian". The seemingly non-sequitorious cattle call of the contestants in Eric's last post in our category emphasized this problem; while Matt Y, Juan Cole and Oliver Willis are very entertaining, few on the Left would actually declare them "Liberal" blogs. And then there were some blogs that, although I've been around the blogosphere for over two years (granted, I was distracted for part of this year with that pesky running for the Maine Leg and all), I haven't a clue as to who they are.

I guess I might have overlooked much of this had there been a genuine cry in the nominating process for Wampum's inclusion. Fact is, we're a bit of an eclectic bunch here, and while we grace a fair number of blogrolls, are under no allusions of grandeur. So while Kevin A. may have felt he was being generous tacking us onto the Best Liberal category, it's a gesture that I do not welcome, and urge my friends and readers, if they must participate in the Right's charade of bipartisanship, to hit the button for someone else. Matt Y. seems to be in the lead, and is the perfect non-Liberal Liberal.

Do...not...seek...the treasure.

You are the company you keep. Or so sayeth some white guy, sometime, somewhere. But this time, I tend to agree.

"Matt Y. seems to be in the lead, and is the perfect non-Liberal Liberal."

You know, I was sort of thinking this but could not find the right words.
