WMDs found in Iraq

BREAKING NEWS FROM ALJAZEERA

Robert Sarmast said a Mesopotamian basin was flooded in 2001 which submerged a rectangular area he believes was Saddam's secret WMD complex, lying 5 meters beneath water level between the Tigris and Euprates rivers. "We have definitely found it," said Sarmast, who led a team of weapons inspectors. Deep water sonar scanning had indicated man-made structures submerged under the Ephrates river, including a 3km-long nuclear complex, a walled presidential palace and deeply entrenched weapons bunkers. "We cannot yet provide tangible proof in the form of bricks and mortar as the artefacts are still buried under several metres of sediment, but the circumstantial and other evidence is irrefutable," he claimed. At a news conference within the Green Zone, Sarmast provided only animated simulations of the "area".

Whether and where Saddam's WMD complex existed has captured imaginations for over a thousand days.

Yadayada yada. I've heard this cockamamie story for years. What do you call a putative nuclear complex buried underwater? A non active, non threatening complex. Was there anyone in this 'complex'? No? Perhaps? Maybe? If not this is not a Dr. No scenario, but probably something a bit more prosaic. Would anyone trust their most advanced technology to be buried underwater, to the vagaries of silt and mud? Suppose they sealed off everything and just left it, was this the therat they were talking about before the war? Is N. Korea going to still beat them to the punch? Was Bull's big gun even more of an active threat than anything they've found so far? Run a rad check on everything there, that ought to tell you fairly quickly if you've got something to be concerned about. Other than that, what's to keep us from burying it under some tons of concrete or asphalt. And what on earth would have kept our Airforce from just bombing the hell out of this all these years by now. Sure this is not a sophisticated way of hiding much, it's been speculated now for years. How many bunker busters would have it taken to make jelly of the entire site? I say it's a bit more likely we've got Nazi or Saddam's gold down there than his nukes or heavens forbid, chemical weapons. So color me unimpressed.

Meanwhile they're beating our brains out the old fashioned way, with insurgent wits and numbers that won't change anytime soon. We can imagine LBJ in the same lurch, but he was a smarter, and yes even ultimately a more moral man that Dubya. These guys want to bring on the next Crusades, they are even eager for it. That's the difference here. If the Bush's said 'X' I'd want full proof of it before beginning to accept the proposition. This includes the sun setting in the west and rising in the east.

Bah humbug! This whole Atlantis myth is is just a rationale for the Illuminati establishment to crack down on the Discordians, and a poor one at that.

Dwight, I saw the URL for the link but never clicked through. Finally saw it, and to tell the truth, I'm also old enough to have lived through several iterations of the 'definitive' location for Atlantis too. All I know that it seems to be breathing down my neck some 45 miles north of the I-285 perimeter. We're gonners...
