Hell, I'll take an average.

It'd beat the shit out of the below average we've been stuck with.

Posted by: julia at October 31, 2004 09:12 PM

That works for me.

The one thing that a lot of these people don't take into consideration is how HATED Bush is by those who won't be voting for him. And those who Hate him will not miss the chance to vote, they will be there with bells on.

Kerry is not anywhere close to being that hated. Sure, there are some, but not near as many - most of those who won't be voting for Kerry really don't know much about him. Much of what they know is from commercials. And that's not enough ammo for them to hate the man.

Posted by: Moi ;) at October 31, 2004 09:49 PM

Kerry will win a comfortable margin and serve eight years, building a distinguished presidency.
Bush will quietly return to Texas and be little
heard from.
Ann Coulter will be placed in a mental institution and well treated, but removed from
daily intercourse with society, which she has already royally screwed over.
Rumsfeld, Cheney and several other Administration officers will be indicited, some of them (esp. Cheney) convicted and sentenced to prision - one of Kerry's great challenges will be to decide whether to pardon any of them. He will ultimately not do so.
Kerry will address the French Chamber of Deputies in beautiful French and warmly win the approval of the French and all of Europe; even the Poles. Iraq will very quickly quiet down as NATO/UN troops arrive to keep order.
Bill Clinton will soon entirely recover in time to succeed Kofi Annan at the UN - restoring it to an important international position.
NOW, GET OUT THERE AND VOTE DEMOCRATIC AND
WE CAN ALL RELAX AND GO BACK TO WORK!

It would be nice if comments here or elsewhere could be stated with some regard for decency!! I personally believe Bush will win; if so, perhaps we can return some of the values this country used to stand for.

Posted by: Barbaara at November 1, 2004 09:13 PM

Actually even liberals will vote against Kerry because in the privacy of the polling booth they will realize they cannot stand his stentorian, 19th-century speaking style. Imagine that droning, out-of-tune-bassoon blather for four years. Admit it, all you lefties out there, you too wish he would just shut up!

Posted by: Jonathan at November 1, 2004 09:48 PM

I believe we have had problems with Bush, but if Kerry wins, we have not begun to see problems. This is one idiot I believe will be America's undoing.

Posted by: Jeff at November 1, 2004 10:05 PM

Without Kerry we are doomed. The nation cannot handle 4 more years of Bush.

Vote for Nader.

An independent vote is not a throwaway vote. Any independent who gets 5% of the vote is eligible for matching Federal funds in the next election. For Nader's views, go to

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/special/president/issues/index.nader.html

Whatever you do, vote your conscience.

If you cannot truly support either of the main candidates' positions, then please look at Ralph Nader at votenader.org.

It is time that we wake up and take back our country from what has become a two-party, almost dictatorial system.

Nader stands for the things I believe in.

I listened to him speak, and he makes sense to me.

Everyone has to vote their conscience. If you are undecided at this point in the election, please spend a bit of time learning about Ralph Nader. Your vote will not be a throwaway vote. If you want to throw your vote away, vote for B or K!

Ralph Nader for President, if not in 2004, then 2008. Vote for him so he gets 5% matching Federal funds in 2008. The world is not going to end regardless of which bozo of the two gets elected this time.

But, if we all REALLY voted for someone who would make a difference, instead of resignedly going to the polls and half-heartedly voting ... what a difference! This country would truly be changed for the better if Ralph Nader were president.

Thanks for listening.

President Bush has given Americans hope, tax relief, respect for our families, morals and ethics, and finally he has restored the chance that God hasn't actually taken his hand off of our country. Remember ALWAYS no matter if you are Rep. or Dem. WHEN AMERICA CEASES BEING GOOD WE WILL SURELY CEASE BEING GREAT !!!! God is in control. I do hope he will not teach us a difficult lession of not respecting human life and place Kerry at the Helm of the USA.God bless Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Republicans have had control of the Supreme Court, the Presidency, the Senate and the House for much of the last 4 years. They have not made ANY effort to champion the right to life. That says it is not an important issue to them, regardless of what they say. Those of you who vote Republican over this issue should take a hard look at their performance. You cannot blame their failure to pass, or even introduce any legislation on the Democrats.

I am scared Kerry will win. If he does tons of unborn babies will loose there life and adam and steve will offically be married. If Bush loosed I live in a pagan country and am headed for Australia wheather my mom want to or not.

Today me and all of my school prayed that God would grant Bush a win so he could continue to support the truth but I also know God doesnt show favortism. AHHHHHHHHHHH this drives me crazy that someone with some little love in his heart could win (ie. Kerry)

Posted by: Youth Of America at November 2, 2004 01:13 AM

If Kerry wins, we can welcome a return to true morality. He is representative of those who are of *true* faith--faith that cannot be distilled into a bumper sticker.

It will be such a refreshing change from the false piety and blaspheming immodesty of those claiming uniquely to know the will of God.

Posted by: gregep1 at November 2, 2004 01:51 AM

I hope Youth of America is not a true representation of America's youth. Only with Bush gone can the U.S. regain its place as the moral leader of the world.

Posted by: clay at November 2, 2004 02:53 AM

A Bush win would put an end to the true American core values expressed by our Enlightenment forefathers who were SECULAR in their government ideologies. A Bush win would sicken these American values by encouraging fundamentalist religious views not unlike our "enemies." A Bush win would take longer than our lifetimes to fix. A Kerry vote is the only way to stop this. I ask myself often what America is made of. We shall find out. God is not the leader of this country, sorry folks, and Bush quite the opposite of a messenger from God. Get real

Posted by: Jae at November 2, 2004 03:31 AM

I hope and pray that Mr. Kerry will win the Presidential race today against President Bush. We have lost much with Bush in the White House. We have lost many, too many, men and women in the armed forces fighting in Iraq when Bin Laden is not even there. We have lost our united nation as we are all so divided. We have lost the respect that America has always known because of Bush's stubborness and him rushing into this warfare without the acceptance of the United Nations. We have lost faith because of the lies and fairytales that Bush tells us. His administration, in my opinion, is corrupted in more ways then one, and since he is Commander and Chief, and he is the head of his administration, so what does that say about him? We need a leader who will at least be fair, with some honesty and sentiment for the American people. We need to again be united. One nation, under God...we need to get back to the basics, and help our own country before others as there are so many poor and homeless, jobless people here in the United States. Charity begins at home. Search your soul....Lets make America beautiful again by putting the people first. Dignity and honor were once important to us. May we once again stand united.

I just discovered your web-site. I am part Cherokee, and I am very much concerned about the rights of minorities, and the growing number of poor in this country. I teach 3rd graders, almost all of whom are on free lunch. I see the potential of these children, and wonder whether because of economic and social circumstances they will ever reach that potential. I feel that there are 2 Americas, and that by electing Kerry/Edwards, we can begin to close that divide.

Posted by: Suzanne Hurst at November 2, 2004 08:09 AM

I can't even imagine how my school would react if Kerry lost the presidential race. We agree, America cannot handle another 4 years of Bush; another 4 years of hell. It is sad how divided the country is now but I have hope that we can regain a unity and strip the nation of a blind faith.
Being elected president does not give one a mandate of heaven!

Posted by: swifteye at November 2, 2004 08:12 AM

I urge a vote for Bush on this most important voting day. We have paid a heavy price with 8 years of Clinton. We don't deserve even a heavier price with 4 years of Kerry. If you desire equal opportunity and the defeat of terrorism, your only alternative is Bush. The other candidates are prisoners of their special interests who desire nobility for minorities and second class citizenship for those who happen to be born with white skin.

Posted by: Phillip at November 2, 2004 08:48 AM

Republicans vote like sheep follow a shepherd--to the slaughter. Anyone who has half a brain can look around and see domestic and foreign problems have become worse over the last four years. It can only get even worse with Bush and his friends. But with the Republican control of the media, we only hear pro-Bush talk shows and commentaries. The electorate is being spoon fed what they want us to hear. Bush really cannot hold an intelligent press conference without coaching. This is the reason he has had so few. His "handlers" are afraid of what he will say if they let the common people question him on relevant issues.

Lets face it, he did not even have a substantive job until around age 40. His father bought him the Texas Rangers so he would have something to do. He then "found" God and has been playing this tune for mindless religious fanatics to sing to. This is truly a case of a minimally intelligent rich, spoiled kid being placed into a prominent political position. In a country where we should have the "best and the brightest" leading us, we have the privileged and mediocre. This is a sad commentary on the USA and is viewed as such by the rest of the industrial world.

What is even worse is going to be found after the votes are cast. We still have many legal proceedings from the 2000 election, most of them involve Republican "children" who feel it is their right and responsibility to mess with the voting process. This has involved destroying ballots, not mailing ballots to registered voters and purposeful miscounting of the election results. We can expect more of the same in 2004. It seems that the "religious" truly feel that their end justifies any means--even if it is illegal and immoral.

With all this, will Bush win? Probably.
Should Kerry win? Definitely, YES.

PEACE! under bush, schools are closing. more people are losing their homes than buying. people can't find decent jobs. if you get sick just grin and bear it, because you don't have any health insurance. isn't funny how it's clinton fault everything went down the tubes. but when you look at the companies involved, they were all friends with the bush family?

I hope everyone gets out and votes today. I stood in a line for 2 hours for my chance to excersise this precious right.

I voted for Bush in 2000, and quite frankly I am disgusted with his leadership. He has torn down all the values that this country really stands for and instead gives empty speeches about God, Family and Education. None of his speeches translate into action. I am more than willing to give John Kerry a chance and hope for new leadership. Because I have seen what Bush has done and I am not happy at all.

Please go vote today and thank you.

Posted by: Aliyah at November 2, 2004 10:22 AM

Please people, its time for a change in leadership. Senator Kerry served his country (honorably or not maybe in question to some) but he donned this country's uniform and fought in the trenches. He has earned his right to speak about war. President Bush is not being criticized for his war record, simply because he has none. Although both men were born to priveledged backgrounds, only one choose to serve his country. Give Senator Kerry a chance to serve his country again.

Posted by: Kennashaw at November 2, 2004 10:26 AM

The Bushies' campaign pitch follows their usual backward logic: Because we have failed to make you safe, you should re-elect us to make you safer. Because we haven't caught Osama in three years, you need us to catch Osama in the next four years. Because we didn't bother to secure explosives in Iraq, you can count on us to make sure those explosives aren't used against you.

The White House reaction to the disclosures about the vanished explosives in Iraq was typical. Though it's clear the treasures and terrors of Iraq - from viruses to ammunition to artifacts - were being looted and loaded into donkey carts and pickups because we had insufficient troops to secure the country, Bush officials devoted the vast resources of the government to trying to undermine the facts to protect the president.

The Pentagon mobilized to debunk the bunker story with a tortured press conference and a satellite photo of trucks that proved about as much as Colin Powell's prewar drawings of two trailers that were supposed to be mobile biological weapons labs.

Republicans insinuated that it was a plot by foreign internationalists to help the foreigner-loving, internationalist Kerry, a U.N. leak from the camp of Mohamed ElBaradei to hurt the administration that had scorned the U.N. as a weak sister.

In their ruthless determination to put Mr. Bush's political future ahead of our future safety, the White House and House Republicans last week thwarted the enactment of recommendations of the 9/11 commission they never wanted in the first place.

My mother has been suffering from Parkinsons for the past 2 years and its really been painful for me to watch her like this. I myself work in a hospital where I hear that with stem cell research there is real hope of cure or therapy for many ailments, including Parkinsons. I am also from Ohio where I caught a rally by Senator Kerry. Senator Kerry was good enough to shake my hand after the rally, a good strong shake. I quickly asked him about stem cell research and although he has a few moments, he said a few words to me. Truthfully, I cannot remember what he said or any of the words, but I remember him looking into my eyes and it is as if he felt my pain for that one moment in time. That one moment has truly touched me and ever since then I have heard him speak about the promise of science many times. America will fall back in this important arena, while Europe and Asia will take the lead. I don't think Parkinsons will be cured in under a Kerry presidency, but I know he will put us on the right track. If you lived with my mother night and day as I have and see her pain, you will understand why this one issue is so important to me. Please get out and vote!

Quite a lot was said in this campaign about how evil Mr. Kerry was, because he spoke out against the war in Viet-Nam. I am one who is thankful that John Kerry spoke against the war. I believe that if Viet-Nam Veterans Against the War had not protested with vigor and persistence, that I would have had to fight there. The draft ended 9 days before my 18th birthday in 1973. I thank John Kerry for helping to end the fighting and dying in Viet-Nam. I hope to thank him again if he can keep my 18-year-old son out of Iraq.

I have been registered to vote since 1972 and have cast all my ballots for republican presidents. Once upon a time, that was synonimos with small government, fiscal resposibility and acknowledging states rights to govern. This year is different. I can find nothing to agree with GWB except going to Afghanastan after 9/11. His policies and his lies have been costly to the country and to the world. I don't have a clear idea of what Kerry will do, but I can no longer tolerate what BWB has done. I have voted and implore all folk to vote, regardless of opinion.

I am not a religious man, and even if I were I would surely keep those views out of the political spectrum as much as possible, because that is one of the founding principles of our wonderful country. However, this year I am PRAYING that Bush does not get re-elected! I disagree with his treatment of minorities, his handling of foreign affairs, his disregard for the economy, social security and health care, and it sickens me to see the conservative right-wing agenda that has permeated his presidency and oppressed the lives of millions of Americans. We need a change! We need John Kerry!

Posted by: Garrett at November 2, 2004 11:08 AM

There are certainly many interesting opinions being expressed here. This is what makes us Americans. It separates us from the enemies of our country and ultimately unifies us all. When you vote today, remember all those who have given their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms(which are dwindling) we do today.

I saw a previously undecided voter being interviewed on MSNBC this morning. She has now decided that she will vote for Kerry. Her reasons: She attended a rally and the this past weekend and was excited by the energy there along with Rev Jackson supporting Kerry. The lady was well groomed, didn't seem nervous, and spoke well. It's sad to see people who probably do vote on appearances rather than issues.

Posted by: Derrell at November 2, 2004 12:20 PM

Bush has lied to the American people about so many issues that there is no way to list them all here. Yes Saddam was a bad man but was not linked to the tragic events of 9/11 in any way. Going into the Iraq war Bush said that the rebuilding of Iraq would be paid for by Iraq oil but now that cost which will be trillions of dollars that will be picked up by the the taxpayers of our great country. A war on terror is one thing but that is not what this war is about.
Bush ran in 2000 saying he was going to reform MediCare which at the end of his term he did offer his 3% discount but that did not counter the 17% increase during his 4 years.
The outsourcing of jobs which Bush says is a good thing is destroying the American workforce and the quality of life for many Americans. We should not continue to offer tax breaks to American company's that outsource our jobs overseas. Yes this President has created some jobs during his term but not as many as he has lost nor do they pay what the one lost once did.
Healthcare is a big problem in this country and Bush has done nothing in the past 4 years to address the issue as more and more people continue to lose the right to afford medical care.
The pro-lifer's have made an issue on the abortion issue but Bush has been in office for 4 years with a Republican House and Senate and has not and will not change that either, this is not an issue in this election.
It is time for a new derection and new leadership in this America and God willing that will happen today!

Posted by: John at November 2, 2004 12:33 PM

I truly believe that another 4 years of dubbya's *leadership* would be detrimental (sp?) to America as a nation. He is a liar and he's good at it. He had pulled the wool over many americans eyes and it has worked. I hope there are enough of us out there that haven't been brainwashed to get him out of office! I could go on for pages and pages but I won't... there just one thing I have to say. Dubbya's "100% Volunteer Army" he boasts about so much is a bull-doodie. Countless soldiers that should be home already, have served there time honorably and are ready to start their lives are being held against their will and threatened with re-deployment or have already been re-deployed. Does this sound like a "100% volunteer" situation to you? How would you like to be told that even though you have served your country and are ready to come home to your wife/job/school/family whatever... that you are being given the wonderful (forced no way out) opportunity to die for your country against your will? Yippee!

Posted by: Vanessa at November 2, 2004 12:37 PM

I voted for Kerry this morning. This is the first time in 4 presidential elections that I have voted for one of the two major candidates. I usually vote third party or write-in because neither party reflects my values and beliefs. I felt compelled to vote for Kerry this time because Bush scares me to death. Why is it that so many Americans are standing by while their President continues to take away their personal rights and freedoms? I value the US Constitution and my rights as a free American and I for one am not willing to give up freedom in the name of security.
Cast a vote for your freedom and rights- cast a vote for John Kerry!

i was interested in the comments made re : values....

i was thinking about some of mr bush's values :

values like lying to the american people about the reasons for going to war in iraq (the only other excuse is incompetence - the intelligence was out there that the weapons didnt exist, there were no al qiada cells in iraq, the post war faze would need more troops to secure the country, etc.)

values like using the worst attack on american soil in the last century as an excuse to invade iraq, when he knew absolutely they werent involved.

values like lying about the reasons for his tax cut when he sold it to the american people as a "economic stimulus pkg" when it was, in truth, a reward for the rich who fund his campaigns. ANY economist will tell you that, if you want to stimulate a consumer based economy, that is, stimulate demand, you do it at the lower end of the income scale; with those who are more likely to spend it. (you give tax relief to the upper levels to stir investment capital formation - and with the current level of interest rates and the return on stocks under bush, that is obviously not what was needed.)

values like he showed when he and his cronies attacked the distinguished war record of sen. kerry, a true american war hero - a man who, not only volunteered for service, but volunteered for vietnam, volunteered for hazardous duty and was awarded 3 purple hearts, the bronze star and the silver star. and all this by a man who used his father's political connections to avoid service - and then didnt even fulfill his commitment - and a vice president who perused basically the same course. no matter what you think of either man's positions, this despicable act disqualifies bush morally from remaining in the oval office. americans just plain dont disrespect those who fight for this country.

you conservative folk really loved to run down bill clinton because he lied about what should have been his own personal business. but you can so easily give a pass to a man who lied about the reasons for taking the country to war.... and you talk about values.

I feel as if I've been watching "The Emperor's New Clothes." People who have really been watching the Bush administration for the last 4 years can't help but realize that this is the most radical administration EVER. They have flat-out lied, abused power and are willing to try any nasty trick to win. The Patriot Act and its abuses by Ashcroft have resulted in the rounding up of people who are held without counsel and often without any contact with the outside world; their families have no idea where they've gone. Do you really want to hear the 2:00 a.m. knock on your door and the search of your home because you've said something negative about this group of people? That's what's happening, folks. When did it become unpatriotic to speak out against our government's policies? Many, many people died to provide us with the privelege to do so. Our freedom to dissent is one of the factors that make America great! This administration is so arrogant that they think they can ignore the opinions of the rest of the world. When they're proven wrong, they refuse to take responsibility or even admit they might have made mistakes. This is a very dangerous group of people; if they win another term and no longer need to worry about re-election, we "ain't seen nothin' yet"!

It's perfectly okay to change your mind and admit when you're wrong. Unlike some who never admit fault for anything. And if you *really* look at Kerry's record. He is not what I would consider a flip flopper. He agrees that the "War Against Terror" was neccesary but is not happy witht he way it was carried out. Like many Americans. And by the way, don't listen to everything Bush & his croonies tell you... do your own research.

After reading many of the comments above, I am saddened by the lack of civility of almost all of those supporting Kerry and some of those supporting our president. The apparent inability to distinguish facts from opinions of those on the left (or is it just ignorance of the difference between opinions and facts) is also disquieting. Nvertheless, ours is a great country and, although Messrs. Kerry and Bush present great differences in their respective approaches and integrity, we will persever and flourish.

I've heard it said that Kerry is "wishy-washy" and "doesn't stand on his convictions" because he (like Clinton) takes opinion polls to determine where he should stand.

I say, take polls. Take lots of polls. That way you can find out what the people want. A vast improvement over sitting in the rubber room with your war-mongers, deciding to send our sons and daughters into the snakepit of a foreign battle.

The current foreign policy appears to be: "Lets shove democracy down their throats. In the end, they'll love us, love me, and forever thank us for this great freedom invasion."

God bless our troops, and may they be home safely soon.

Just remember, people are fickle, they will switch opinions like bed sheets depending on who is talking. Leaders should stick to what they believe.... after talking with as many groups as possible, to make an informed decision that will help the majority. You can't please everyone, and trying to leads to failure.

Posted by: Johnny at November 2, 2004 02:34 PM

I don't understand the democrats personal vendetta against Bush. Their comments are ugly and hateful and if you don't think so just look at a few of the comments posted above. After all the hate I can't see Americans coming together under someone like John Kerry on November 3. May God be merciful to us for another four years.

Posted by: sara at November 2, 2004 02:51 PM

I find it sad that the all of the people who are voting for Bush, are voting FOR Bush, but less than half of the people voting for Kerry are really voting FOR him. The majority of Kerry's votes are really votes against Bush.

If Bush wins, we have a president who at best has the approval of at least half the poulation. A tough place as he knows as he is there now.

If Kerry wins, we have a president who only really only has approval of approximately a quarter of the population. A tougher place to be that he would soon discover.

For me it really comes down to moratily and respect for human life, regardless of it's 'stage'. As we all know, the supreme court's roster and opinions will have a heavy influence on American society for years to come. Look were we are now with the liberal court decisions of the past. "seperation of church and state" wasn't even a concept before the 1940's. Our founding fathers wanted to keep religious influences out of government, not wipe off the face of God from American society.

The next president will have a heavy influence on the court and ultimately on the future of our society.

That's where I place my vote. Not economics, not the war, not security, but morality and protecting life, all life, even when it's inconvenient.

Posted by: ken at November 2, 2004 03:01 PM

The truth of the matter is that when you wake up tomorrow, the country will still be here intact no matter who wins. The reason there are term limits in the Presidency is to limit the danmage any one man can do. We need to extend limits to some of the cronies entrenched in the House and Senate. Many of them do far more harm than the man in the White House.

I read an interesting arcticle from the AP wire service about what the world thinks about this election and it's ramifications. Most all want Kerry because they believe he will represent someone who is willing to work with the world to solve the world problems, like Iraq. Can you imagine if Germany and France decided that it was appropriate to assist in stabilizing the mess there? The vitreole towards Bush stems from frustration in seeing our position in the world erode to nothing more than being a big bully with lots of guns, or "go-it-alone" mentality. Every time Dick Cheney (the real president by the way) opens his mouth, my skin crawls. My prayers are that this is it for BC04.

Posted by: Pete Lang at November 2, 2004 03:11 PM

We aren't the bully with lots of guns thanks to people like John Kerry who vote to go to war and then vote not to arm our troops sufficiently.

Posted by: sara at November 2, 2004 03:15 PM

wow! so much for a republican vendetta. check your facts on that vote and you will find that there was an issue of a plan to get out of iraq that was non-existant and that $20B was originally intended as a loan rather than a generous gift. it was never about proper arms for the troops. if your commander-in-chief had done his homework, they would have had those arms BEFORE they went in. but that is water under the bridge. Kerry is going to win by a large margin

Posted by: Pete Lang at November 2, 2004 03:35 PM

I find it funny that a Kerry supporter can criticize Bush for not having a plan. I have yet to hear Kerry state any sort of a definite plan. Does he support a war? Does he not support a war? Will he win "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time?" I love how he can criticize the war and then blame Bush for not securing Iraq's weapons. AMAZING

Posted by: sara at November 2, 2004 03:43 PM

I think the right to vote is important and cannot emphasize it enough, but voting party lines without knowing what the candidates actually represent is outrageous and shouldn't be tolerated. Regardless of your choice this year, encourage those you know who do not regularly vote or who may be new to the process to exercise their priviledge in this election. Your vote DOES count and it DOES matter. Remember and remind others - you have no right to complain about the decisions of the next President of the United States if you chose NOT to vote for their opponent! See YOU at the polls!!!

Posted by: Steph at November 2, 2004 03:47 PM

One thing that has never has hit the papers or the political ads, is amnesty international, invesigating bush administration treatment of prisoners of war. Bush used torture of prisoners as excuse for attack on Iraq. Now amnesty international investigating US govt. for this same kind of prisoner abuse as bush used for one of his reasons for war. Bush has not followed the geneva convention in respect to prisoners of war and does not deserve reelection. If most americans would know about this prison torture issue, they would not vote bush.

I think all of you people who think voting for Kerry is a good thing need to talk to my father. My father is home on leave from Iraq where he has been serving our country for the past 8 months. I think the media needs to focus on what the troops over there have to say. My father enjoys it over there, has never had to fire his weapon and knows that the Iraqi people want us there. The media needs to focus on the good stuff that is going on over there, the girls going to school and the women walking around without their faces covered. Can anyone of you imagine not letting girls go to school??? I can't!!

WITNESS THE TAKING BACK OF AMERICA!

KERRY AND EDWARDS WILL BERING BACK HOPE, RESPECT AND PEACE FOR EVERYONE IN AMERICA.

Posted by: Louis Giavasis at November 2, 2004 04:12 PM

I am voting for Bush. The country is finally starting to get back on it's feet after having had Bill Clinton in office for 8 years. George Bush came into office with a lot of work to do to try to fix our country. The next 4 years will be better, because of what GWB has done. IF, Kerry is elected it will be good for the next 4 years, but he will put many laws into pass that will injure the country in the future. I am very secure in the knowledge that Pres Bush has the same moral values as myself. He states that he is a born-again christian and that is exactly what we need for our country. Many people forget that this country was founded by christians who were escaping religious persecution and our motto is "In God we trust". Shame on those who think we should do away with the ideas our founding fathers had.

Posted by: Lydia at November 2, 2004 04:24 PM

"Professing themselves to be wise they became fools." Amazing how applicable the Bible is to America. Every empire that has ever fallen has first experienced a major moral decline. Check it out, it's true. And now we have John Kerry claiming to be the candidate that will bring back America's character and strong morals?? I don't know where he's looking to find his morals. May God spare us from the destruction we deserve.

Posted by: megan at November 2, 2004 04:27 PM

"Bush used torture of prisoners" please. I do not remember President Bush being in Iraq strolling through the prison beating prisoners. As far as Senator Kerry's plans. He seems to have a plan for everything but I don't remember him telling anyone what those plans are. I am a veteran and I tell you that it is nearly impossible to attain three purple hearts, a silver star and a bronze star in four months. THis man must have been under constant fire the entire time. I couldn't agree more with some of the comments that state most Democrats are voting against President Bush and not for Senator Kerry.

Posted by: Keith at November 2, 2004 04:39 PM

Vote for Bush !!! You will regret it later... and yes God does run this country, he just needs the right man to be his feet, his arms, his eyes and his ears! Go Bush!!!

Posted by: Demi at November 2, 2004 04:41 PM

Let's just hope this democracy can survive what the Republican Party is putting it through, because if it doesn't, it will be a long and difficult road to try to build a new one under a corporate-led dictatorship.

Posted by: Franklin Thomas at November 2, 2004 04:41 PM

Have you lost your job? Has your protfolio been cut in half (or more)? Do you know someone who has died in Iraq? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, and you vote for Bush, you are making a big mistake!

Posted by: Buffy at November 2, 2004 04:46 PM

That's for damn sure, a vote for the Bush/Cheney "farm/ranch team" is a vote for Halliburton. We need to kick this supreme court appointed ceo back to his vacation ranch where he spends most of time anyways.

Posted by: Raphael at November 2, 2004 04:48 PM

And don't forget to make some time for criminal charges after the new president takes over. We can't let them think that they can get away with looting our children's futures as easily as they have looted their previous company's treasuries.

Posted by: Mike at November 2, 2004 04:53 PM

I truly hope that Kerry wins this election, because if he loses that means either Bush has stolen another one and the system has stopped working, or that most of the people in this country really do think he is a not a bad leader. I'm not sure which of those scares me more, but either way, I don't think I could bear to watch this administration continue to steal from the poor to profit the rich. It sickens me.

Hey, Lydia: Our founding fathers fought for the division of church and state. Bush and people like you want to impose your personal religious beliefs on everyone else, even people in other countries and cultures. One of the most alarming things about the Bush administration is their absolute certainty that they're always right. Maybe their behavior seems moral to you, but let me assure you that it appears highly immoral, unAmerican and, yes, unChristian to many, many others here and abroad.

Posted by: Susan at November 2, 2004 05:32 PM

I think we can all agree that Bush wreckless and evil, but I think, more importantly, his speech impediment is just too embarassing for the nation.

Posted by: Mary-Ann at November 2, 2004 05:35 PM

Speech impediment? All this time I thought he was just retarded!

Posted by: Ricardo at November 2, 2004 05:38 PM

I just got back from voting and man, the lines are huge! The people waiting were friendly for the most part, but the main topic of discussion was the last election and all the shenanigans that were pulled, and probably going to be re-pulled today. There were a couple of "loud" discussions, but no rioting in the streets yet.

I believe America is the greatest nation, and I am optimistic for the future.

But the passengers on the Titanic were on the greatest ship of their day and they were very optimistic, too. Then their captain ignored the icebergs warnings, refused to change course, did not make sure that the lookouts had proper equipment, and well, you know the story.

We all have the same goal. We all want American to be safe and prosperous. We all want to be a good neighbor and good citizen of the world. But optimism and faith in a higher power alone are not enough to achieve those. This is a great nation, but we are not unsinkable.

Supposedly 90% of an iceberg’s mass lies below the surface. I believe Iraq to be an iceberg of which we have only seen the tip. This administration is fighting the war on terror with the same tactics previously used to fight the war on drugs. Saddam Hussein was a murderous dictator, but how is his overthrow and imprisonment is going to effect terrorism any more than the overthrow and imprisonment of Manual Noriega effected drug trafficking?

I am not totally thrilled with John Kerry. It is like stepping off of the Titanic and getting onto a tiny lifeboat in the middle of a big, freezing-cold ocean. But our ship is taking on water. Some of you do not believe that and still contend that the ship is unsinkable. Others prefer to stay on board with the captain, hoping that it stays afloat for 4 more years. The rest of us see Kerry as our best bet for survival and are willing to take our chances.

So make your choice wisely. The last lifeboat departs when the polls close.

I began this day -- election day -- with the hope that John Kerry would squeak out 278 electoral votes. This was an improvement from my best guess over the weekend, where I pencilled Bush in for a win with 294. Now (3:16 PM PST) I hear favorable signs about youth voting and long lines and I believe those are favorable to the Dems. I take issues with those of both parties who think that the long lines are highly favorable to the Dems -- I think they moderately favor Dems in most places. My own precinct was extremely busy, with one man fainting in the morning sun, and two-hour turnaround times. The activity here was not youth based; instead, I saw a much higher level of women voting. We have an extremely ethnically diverse neighborhood (40% white, 30% Hispanic, 25% Asian and Indian, 5% black and other); I believe we had a higher than average turnout of all minorities. In this area, some minorities are intensely Republican, while others are absolutely peace-oriented and can be expected to go Democratic. Based on my observations today, and seeing them confirmed in bits of TV and web coverage, I think the Kerry vote may stretch all the way up to 300 (exactly). I have difficulty believing I just typed that figure. I must be dreaming. Don't wake me just yet.

Posted by: Sunny at November 2, 2004 06:59 PM

I can remember the 1950's when I was in public school. I was taught that the power of our country was based on our doing the right thing - not the most profitable thing or the most expedient thing. I believe that GWB is taking the US closer to a fescist dictatorship which will ultimately destroy this nation which shaped my principles so profoundly. As far as abortion - I am a priest and it is MY JOB to teach my congregation to reject the evils of abortion, I have no right, however to be so blindly arrogant that I feel my values should be mandated by law. This country was founded on religious freedom, not uniformity. In a Bush America my prayers will certainly NOT be the ones recited in the schools. I fear that the religious right is the greatest threat to my religious freedom.
I want the America of Eisenhower back! I want honour to be more important than "morals". I wonder if all you "moral" americans know that Mores are just the sum total of what a culture feels acceptable.I want to be righteous not "moral" That would mean thatif the prevailing mores of our society included cannibalism then all the "moral" folks would be eating each other. (hmmmm. Let me put the Iraq question to you this way) --- if I am afraid of you, do I have a right to "preemptively" beat the crapout of you or kill you - all because I am afraid you MIGHT harm me. I*f you agree that this kind of "preemptive strike" is good"morals" then you are not from the America I was raised in. POERIOD

I wasn't trying to make anyone say I am right about what I believe.. this is the free speech we have going on here. And it seems to me by your last statements that you would rather the terrorists come here and we fight them on our own turf. I DO think you should read your Bible sir

Posted by: Stormy at November 2, 2004 08:53 PM

I am so tired of the misconception that liberals are godless creatures, lacking in morals. I am so sick of watching the religious right calling dibs on God. I do not believe that Bush and his right wing supporters walk in the path of Jesus Christ any more than many democrats(who are not all liberals, but I guess I missed the commandment that cites liberals as sinners). It is one thing to read the book, and something very different to live your life based on the teachings of God. You can show your spirituality be acting with love, not hatefully forcing your ideologies on others. I pray for you, Sunny.

The youth of America are just as divided as the voters. Most kids in 9th grade and under are undecided or just believe what their parents tell them. 19th graders and up are generally 48%Democratic, 47% Republican, and 5% other. Generally, there is no difference between the "Youth of America" and their parents.

Right now, a higher percentage of people with higher education and degrees are voting for Kerry.
Most white males are voting for Bush.
Most Asians, Latinos, and African-Americans are voting for Kerry.

I believe that George Bush has good morals, a good heart, and is honest. I also believe that his advisors and the people around him are making most of his decisions and that is is a gullible fool.

I am pro-Kerry because I do not want "four more years of Bush". I think it is more than our country can stand.
