June 15, 2004 October is Koufax Pledge Drive month

Sam is Six

Over the weekend Sam picked out some previous Sundays' color comics out of the paper recycling box and took them over to his nook in the kitchen and started reading them. He thought Garfield was pretty funny, saying "ggggrrrruuuuggggghhh" or something similar. Due to a down-street development that's involved hundreds of truckloads of equipment in, logging, blasting, rock and soil out, gravel, sand and soil in, and recently paving, Sam's transformed the shoe-cubby window-seat in the kitchen, one of MB's Summer '03 projects, into his lookout.

Sam is wicked dry now, it was only nine months ago I wrote:

For the past several days I've been cheating. I check Sam's over-night pull-up for "weight", and if it is "light", it somehow manages to be Jonah's morning change-into. They've become so light I can't feel "it". So last night I took the plunge. When I moved Sam from the Jonah-Dada bed to his bed, I didn't do the night-time shimmie from underpants to pull-up, and I didn't wake him up to pee (he's discovered peeing standing up is, well, kwel). In the morning, he was dry and stumbled off to the toilet.

It is Indigenous Little Boy's Day. Sam's out of diapers. wigôwzo.

I remembered this morning, treating a rare pair of wet shorts to a quick trip to the laundry basket, writing about the transition last Fall. Of course there were backs-and-forths between sleeping en-pull and sans-pull, but here we are at 6 and fully sleepover ready.

Because of his disability Sam gets half-day maintenance service from the school during most of the Summer, and I have to work fun and time with him when his needier younger brother Jonah is still getting full-day service.

The above comment was deleted for two reasons. One, it had nothing to do with my son's 6th birthday. If the poster would like to repost the comment under the appropriate thread, he/she is welcome to do so. However, the poster also claimed to be a registered voter in my district, which is in Portland, Maine. The poster's IP address resolved to NYC.
