Jeralyn and Bob are the tops in their issues and I read both more often. Brad, too, but sometimes he's above my creaking brain. However, as Iraq was the issue this year, I'm giving a slight edge for Juan Cole. If he gets beat, I hope Talk Left does it.

Orcinus has a couple more issues than 'domestic terrorism', but he covers that one pretty well. He's a bit long-winded though, but I think he really deserves a vote. I don't know, count it as if it's a best-hair vote or something.

Posted by: Magnum at January 25, 2004 12:44 PM

Another excellent list. I'll go with Brad DeLong. Lots of posts, great depth, excellent policing of comments to keep the trolls out, and -- let's face it -- the economy is THE most critical issue and you can't get this depth of analysis anywhere else.

Orinicus in close second.

Fist Pick: Howler's coverage on the media is better than the media's coverage of just about anything else.

Second Pick: Orcinus, and his excellent post of the purely evil nature of domestic terrorists being at least as dire a threat to this republic as anything arab&muslim terrorism ever could be.

The Kos picks up my third place on politics and elections.

With luck all three will finish in a tie for first since I can't help but want to see all three win for what they've done here.

MYOB'

Howler.

Just a reminder that Somerby has a five-year searchable archive. Just punch in what you want to know about -- e.g. "Novak Love Canal" if you want to know if Novak was involved in that fraud -- and you'll get your answer. He obviously doesn't catch everything but he's really the first place to go, before Google and even before Lexis for people who have it (since he's already sifted through the Lexis db to get the best stuff.

All the candidate are strong and I think that they should count as primary sources for anyone including experts, on a par with anything in print.

Posted by: Zizka at January 25, 2004 01:49 PM

Too tough. I can only break a six-way tie by voting for Orcinus, because I think his is a subject that still gets inadequate coverage. (And I'm giving my first-place vote for expertise to Brad DeLong elsewhere.) But I really wanted to give the Howler a first-place vote, too. (And where's The Horse?)

Confined Space is the best, single source for worker health and safety news and comment today. I work in the field, and those who take a worker-focused approach are vastly outnumbered by the cut-costs-at-all-costs advocates. Confined Space is a wake-up call-to-action for all American workers. It is the proverbial canary in a post-OSHA environment.

Brad DeLong. How a man with this natural a grasp of written communication ever survived an economics education.. is a wonder of the world.

Confined space is an unique blog and deserves to win the award. Many people write about economics, politics, the Middle East, domestic terrorism, etc. How many write about the epidemics of worker deaths and injuries that affect our country?

Confined Space - it's the real thing

Posted by: Alex at January 27, 2004 07:08 AM

I agree with Susie and others above who are voting for Confined Space - we've got tons of political blogs that focus on politicians, campaigns and the media - we need more blogs like CS that highlight problems confronting workers.

Please count my vote for CONFINED SPACE! His stuff is better than what I've been seeing in other widely circulated sites. Plus, the info on worker issues you don't find other places. Want to know how the little gal/guy is being screwed by federal labor and scientific policy, agency and national committee appointments? Confined Space puts it out there.
