BTW -- Gilliard is the clear choice as a runner up. Send him some love, he appears to be in a difficult medical situation. (I almost bumped him over Billmon out of sympathy, but decided to leave this post instead).

Baghdad Burning is amazing writing about a very horrifying place. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to post to a blog from there, with sporadic electricity, while her brother stands on the roof of their house and watches American bombs coming down around their city. So I guess I'll go with Riverbend.
Dohiyi Mir, Steve Gilliard, and Whiskey Bar are just as stunning.

Posted by: Fred at January 25, 2004 02:44 PMThe Iraq blogs (Baghdad Burning, Salam Pax) deserve their own category. I vote Baghdad Burning, with Gilliard a very close second.
Posted by: Hulka at January 25, 2004 03:17 PMDohiyi Mir -- even the cat pictures are riveting
Posted by: Alex C at January 25, 2004 03:38 PMSteve seems to be equally authoritative on everything,
which isn't possible, but he's entertaining and
insightful, and when it comes to Iraq, informed
and unrelenting cynicism is a faceful of icy cold
water. Too bad he can't spell. And even worse, too
bad he's mightily sick. We need him. The country
needs him. One more vote for Gilliard. May he get
well soon and resume his important blogging. Maybe
it would help if everyone went and bought a Fighting

Kicking Ass
Posted by: Edward Lucio at January 26, 2004 09:39 AMKicking Ass, because of the enormous work there by the bloggers themselves, sharing resources, links, etc, instead of just "out-posting" the last guy.
Posted by: Rick C at January 26, 2004 09:42 AMAlthough Bagdad Burning is very powerful reading, it revolves around one topic. Kickin Ass offers various subjects of the day, as well as the Open Thread where all views, thoughts, opinions are exchanged. It is user-friendly, and remains my favorite.
Posted by: Pam Bergren at January 26, 2004 09:45 AMKicking Ass is the one Blog where Liberal, and Conservative Democrats can come together to put an elected President in the Oval Office. Let's end this illegal regime in Washington.

Posted by: skb at January 26, 2004 10:19 AMKicking Ass is a forum for those of us who are dedicated to returning legitimate rule to the government. It is a lifeline for those of us who believe in progressive politics but live in conservative communities. It encourages democratic communication and even permits people from the repubs to publish on the site. The fact that some of them have attempted to subvert the discussion demonstrates the threat of participatory democracy to elitist rule.
Kicking Ass has been a catharsis for my election 2000 rage and an inspiration to work for 2004 victory.
