This is another new category suggested in comments by readers. I have changed the name from “Most Unappreciated” to “Most Deserving of Wider Recognition” as that far more accurately expresses the idea (thanks David for suggesting the change). Some of the blogs listed below must already be greatly appreciated as they have been nominated in other categories. Nonetheless, they may well be deserving of even wider recognition. Make some more room on your blogroll for the Nominees for the 2003 Koufax Award for Most Deserving of Wider Recognition:
Best of the Blogs

The Head Heeb
How to Learn Swedish
Update:
Due to my error, The Bloviator was ommitred from the list of nominees in this category. My apologies to Ross at the The Bloviator for the error.
Posted by Dwight Meredith at January 8, 2004 02:16 PM | TrackBackMassive agreement on the Head Heeb. He does tremendous work keeping his readers up to date on what's going on around the world. I always feel petty and local after a trip there (but in a good, Vowing To Do Better way :-). Also, a terrific person.

Posted by: sym at January 9, 2004 12:23 AMEverybody should start checking out Ethel. Fantastic range of stuff. An even better-grounded conspiracy-theorist than me, interesting music, oceanography, Texas local color, and lots of other stuff I forget.
My understanding is that Sisyphus S. does not want to be famous. No vote for her.
So my official vote will be Slacktivist.
Forgot to nominate "Interesting Monster": unique perspective on music, politics, life, etc. Next year, OK?
Cursor is highly recommended as a quick-stop -- always has the BEST collection of good new stuff, no discussion though.
My tiny blogroll at my defunct site (click URL) is almost half underrated blogs, so stop by.
Posted by: Zizka at January 9, 2004 12:36 AMthis is a tough category.
i was under the impression cursor and the sideshow got wide recognition. the cursor is one of the top three blogs i visit everyday (not counting my own, which you can go vote for in the most humorous blog category, thank you).
i'd have to say kevin at lean left who does a yeoman's job of keen research and analysis. i'm also partial to sysiphus and skbubba.

Posted by: Elayne Riggs at January 9, 2004 04:58 PMi second elayne's motion...give her blog more attention!
Posted by: skippy at January 10, 2004 12:08 AMOh, yeah, now some of you are voting for me -- after I'm dead! But when I was alive, you didn't have time for me! All those years, starving in garrets, hauling my empties to J&R to buy a new optical mouse, and now I'm lying in a quicklime pit, and the bandwagon pulls up and you all pile right on, don't you? Wankers.
I would vote for Cursor, but they'll just send a couple of their all-powerful robots to the awards ceremony, and that would send the wrong message. So I vote for SK Bubba, and hope the extra attention encourages him to buy a new graphic.
Posted by: roy edroso at January 10, 2004 12:55 AMRoy, thanks for the vote, and for the prod. I've been meaning to do that, and have a basket of excuses for the lame graphic I was using. But we aim to please, so consider it done.
Posted by: skb at January 10, 2004 01:18 PMSK Bubba, not only for his excellent blog but also for generous the work he puts into promoting other bloggers in the Rocky Top Brigade.
Posted by: Jane Finch at January 10, 2004 01:55 PMI thought everyone knew about Suburban Guerrilla, but as she's on this list, she definitely gets my vote. Great category, btw.
Posted by: Tim at January 10, 2004 02:02 PMA vote for Suburban Guerrilla. It's a daily for me.

To me Cursor is in some other category than 'blog'. It's indispensible as a convenient roundup. Maybe I'm wrong but my impression is that it already gets much wider attention (i.e. several times the traffic) than any of the other nominated sites.
Posted by: Nell Lancaster at January 10, 2004 05:54 PMCursor
Sisyphus Shrugged
South Knox Bubba
These three are daily reads for me.
Posted by: Ginger Mayerson at January 10, 2004 06:04 PMI'm surprised to see Uncertain Principles listed. Not that he doesn't deserve wider recognition, because he does, but because I didn't think anyone else but me and a handful of his students even knew he exsisted.
So, even though others are more widely recognised (and I like S. Shrugged, V.V. Happy, the Sideshow and S.K. Bubba BTW) I think Uncertain Principles needs a little love.

I'd also throw in NeedleNose. Smart political commentary. These guys deserve a lot more readers.
But OK, if I have to limit myself to the list here, I'd pick South Knox Bubba.

Ethel the Blog
ARGH! Another hard one to pick from the best, though I'm glad several of my nominees made the grade here, like Suburban Guerrilla, Monkey Media Report, Peevish, Mousemusings, Best of The Blogs and Alicublog.
I'm surprised that Head Heeb, Cursor, Ethel the Blog, Sisyphus Shrugged, Slacktivist, South Knox Bubba and The Sideshow made this category, as I thought all these were mandatory readings that are heavily trafficked already.
I'd certainly add the thoughtful Prometheus 6 to my nominees. I rate Xymphora high on content, but with no comments or email, it's too anonymous for my tastes.
I still think my nominees list plus Prometheus deserve to win this, and my voting among this group is defined by hairs.
From them, by those slimmest of margins, I rank Alicublog and Best of the Blogs as the two most deserving of Wider Recognition, though I hope all on my list get the fame they each so richly deserve.
