Forget "fair and balanced"....

"Luskin the Stalker" is the phrase of the day....

Atrios has received an atomic letter from one Jeffrey J. Upton, Esquire, resprenting Donald L. Luskin, a "contributing Editor to National Review Online and author and host of Poorandstupid.com", asserting some rational for libel or inciting a mob or participating in a Nigerian pyramid scheme or some other silly and frivolous charge.

However, it's not a silly or frivolous charge, in that the motivation in and of itself is solely for the purpose of quashing dissent.

So what can be done? Well first off, every person using Blogger can email Pyra/Google and inform them that should they even get a whiff of Google caving on Atrios' identity (that is, should Google even have it, and I'm not convinced they do) then they and every friend, relative, dogcatcher with a modem will express their disapproval and move to Typepad or some other host. Unfortunately, though, threats of boycotts often don't work.

Atrios has suggested a public shunning, or delinking, of Luskin, and I personally find that to be a useful tool for loose cannon bloggers, who often live and die by the link. Unfortunately for me, I never link to right-wing pseudo-pundits, so I don't get the pleasure of pulling the HTML. However, I will urge the sane voices on the Right to consider the chilling fallout action like this places over all of us, Left and Right, and stand up against such folly.

Right on! I'd pull the link if I had one. Lesson for Luskin: life is a series of voluntary associations. You got yourself into this one.

And don't forget to add - somewhere on your site/blog: "I Am Atrios!"

And I for sure will e-mail Google/Blogger.
