Not only have I finally come back to poor, neglected Wampum, I've just returned to Maine from my first trip away, alone, without spouse or children, in seven years. It was a quick 36 hour sprint to NYC, to join a top secret gathering of the New York blogging cabal (with a few non-NYers thrown in for diversity purposes.) While, as we Lefties obviously always do when we gather, we plotted the furthering of the Liberal Media's anti-American agenda, including, but not limited to, cheering on the prospects of greater quagmire in Iraq and another million lost jobs; we also ate, drank and generally made much merry. I will offer kudos to Mayor Bloomberg for at least one controversial policy decision; it is so nice to leave a bar not smelling like one has been rolling in cigarette butts.
The incomparable Dwight Meredith, formerly of PLA, flew up from Georgia to join the clandestine event. Details need to be worked out, but forlorn fans of the eloquent voice of compassion and wit recently MIA from the blogosphere should stayed tuned for more Dwight in the near future. In the meantime, Wampum will be gearing up to host the annual Koufax Awards later this fall. Fortunately, the creator of the series will be the man behind the curtain, steering me through the process.
While I was gone, Crow Girl of Magpie, generously picked up the torch of Flashback Friday, er, Sunday. Seeing that we're approaching the infamous "Perfect Storm" of late October, 1991, it would be a shame to miss out on the weeks building up to Bush Sr.'s "Jump the Shark" moment.
Mary Beth:
Thanks for agreeing to allow the Koufax Awards to appear at Wampum. One of my big concerns in closing PLA was that the awards would not be continued.
Wampoum is a good home for them. I have a few ideas about how to improve the process. Details to follow by email shortly.
Posted by: dwight meredith at October 12, 2003 03:33 PMall I ask is that the next one be held in a place with oyster-colored walls and flood lighting. I'm having the damndest time color correcting the pictures...
Posted by: julia at October 12, 2003 05:30 PMOyster-colored... hmm, I think we can manage that if everyone likes sushi. :)
Great meeting you, MB!!
