Two weeks of blog malaise followed by two weeks of travel, and I have to wonder if I have any readers to which to return. But I actually have to admit that while currently physically exhausted, I feel mentally reinvigorated by our holiday/roadtrip, and ready once again to take on the VRWC.
The trip itself was wonderful; a week tent camping on the beach on lower Hatteras Island, sandwiched in between more "civilized" stays in Baltimore and DC is an itinerary I thoroughly recommend if travelling with young children, autistic or not. Suite hotels are a gift from the gods, as is room service (particularly in establishments with a decent wine list.) And my partner's pronouncements of "there are no deer on this island" and "crabs don't pinch" were soon proved clearly false, as evidenced by the parade of fauna through our campsite, as well as the painful indentation on his big toe. And, yes, even Indians get sunburned...well, at least Northern ones do.
While there's still a lot of unpacking to do, I'll be back later today with some of the thoughts which have been percolating over the past few weeks.
Welcome Back:
I missed you. A week at Hatteras is a great vacation. With all due respect for other nice beaches, the barrier islands of NC are beyond compare.
welcome back! you've been missed.

Posted by: Allison at September 3, 2003 02:34 AMWhy would I think Indians don't get sunburnt? I get sunburnt and my ancestors have lived on this island for centuries, if not millennia. It's the indoor work that makes people more sensitive to sunlight - the summer I worked from dawn till dusk in the fields I never burned.
Hope it wasn't bad for you (I tend to peel) and you had a great time on holiday!
