Well, the Wampum lodge has only been set up in its new home a couple of weeks and sadly, it's coming down. There have been a lot of strange happenings in the Blogosphere as of late, and I decided it's time to put on my jingle dress and hit the powwow highway. I thank all of my readers for their time and input, and hope that you'll keep advocating for the poor, disadvantaged and needy, especially in this time of an Administration which has shut out such voices.
For economic news, my colleagues at It's Still the Economy, Stupid are always spot on. Dwight Meredith of PLA is the voice for autism advocacy, and there is no better. Ross at the Bloviator (happy belated anniversary!) always has the latest scoop on medical news, including vaccine and autism research. I wish I knew of other American Indian bloggers, but, alas there are so few. However, Barry, of Alas, has always been a welcome non-native voice in the wilderness.
It's been a great journey these past six months. Oliwni.
Oh no! I'm sorry to see you go, but I understand the need to devote your energy elsewhere. I hope we can welcome your voice back soon. Best wishes to you and your family.
In admiration,
Gregory
I'm also sorry to see you go. I've enjoyed Flashback Fridays and your look at the economy. Anytime there's an economic announcement in the press, I like to read your take on it.
Good luck with your other endeavors.
Erin
Oh dear ... I am so sorry to see this. :(
Posted by: Devra at June 6, 2003 10:29 PMI am very sorry to see you go. Writing about autism was lonely before you came along. I hope that yu continue to post at ISTES and perhaps can post at Autismwatch. If you have anything you particularly wish to say, there is always space available at PLA for your voice. Email it and I'll post it.
Four kids, two with special needs, a mate, a public position, two blogs and the rest are a lot of balls to keep in the air. Get some rest.
Deb and I will miss you.
Posted by: dwight merdith at June 6, 2003 11:25 PMI'll miss Wampum as well... in my mentalspace, Wampum has always been one "in my neighborhood." I'll miss it, and you.
Not to compete with Dwight (and who could?), but Alas will always have a place for you if you're ever interested in writing a guest post.
Posted by: Ampersand at June 6, 2003 11:51 PMI too am sad to see you go, but I can understand the desire to get out at this point. If our readers only knew the backstabbing and link trading that goes on behind the scenes, all because of sites like the TLB and Technorati, I think they'd all abandon us en masse. How is this medium ever going to be taken seriously if we degenerate into high school silliness at the first opportunity?
You (and Dwight) have reminded me that we POAs need to stick together, even if our political philosophies do not always mesh 100% of the time. Thank you, and I hope you return someday.
Posted by: Tom at June 7, 2003 08:24 AMSee, isn't that funny - I love your posts on politics, but I hope for the family posts. I so admire what you're doing for your kids, and it makes my own lesser burdens seem easier and sweeter to read about your hard-won triumphs as a mom.
I completely understand why you're doing this, and I just hope you'll drop by occasionally and tell us about the leaps your kids are making.
Well, how you are, too, obviously, but you're a mom, so you're used to people asking about the kids first...
Namaste.
Posted by: julia at June 7, 2003 09:58 AMi,like many others, have enjoyed reading your blog
and will miss it.
i wish you the best and hope you guest post
ocasionally somewhere else.
your viewpoints are just too valuable. i think we
are all the better for it.
Dang it - now I've just found "you" and you go and disappear. Hopefully you will have some space and make some space needed in both public and private places. Good luck on the path!

Posted by: Cowboy Kahlil at June 7, 2003 02:25 PMI'm truly sad you are taking down the mat lodge...Your careful research and clear writing make wampumblog one of the treasured places I go. How will we know where to find you?
All along I was amazed you could do all you do, and couldn't imagine how you did it. Rest up and come back!
Posted by: lea-p at June 7, 2003 08:29 PMMB, I will miss your take on things. I've come to rely on your wisdom and insight on the economic front lately. And your wonderfully grounded sense of what matters.
Posted by: Mary at June 8, 2003 01:19 AMVery disappointing news. We will miss you. You were always "right on" on the issues. Please come back soon.
Posted by: Sarah at June 8, 2003 09:43 AMYou're abandoning us? First the holocaust and now this.
Posted by: David at June 8, 2003 12:53 PMYou have made such a contribution to my understanding of the economics involved in what's going on. I really thank you for that. You have written with such depth of knowledge and you have written well. Thank you.
I'll miss you.
I've learned so much reading this blog, it's going to be hard to do without it. More worthy bloggers than I have already offered you space to vent if you feel like you have anything you need to say, but drop us a line to let us know if you're out and about again. But shouldn't be selfish, so...
Best wishes and good health to you and your family. May your garden produce a tremendous crop this year, and your children grow stronger and wiser every day.
Bright Blessings

I will sing 4 you...
I'm sorry to see you go, but I understand the more important matters that you have. You'll be missed.
Posted by: mattH at June 9, 2003 03:26 AMMB,
I'm terribly sorry to hear your news. While you may not maintain your blog in the future, I hope you will continue to keep in touch and make your invaluable contributions toward the goals of finding the root causes of autism, and stomping out ignorance about the disease.
I wish you great health and success in all your future endeavors.

Posted by: Ross at June 9, 2003 12:42 PMI want to thank everyone for their kind words, although, after my recent rant, I won't be offended if you want to take them back. I started blogging seriously because I felt a grave injustice was being perpetuated regarding children and families who were seeking assistance from the government which had promised to protect them. Since then, I've found other issues for which I've tried to be an advocate, as well as a chance to blog about things I find interesting, such as the economy. But that desire to "fix things" is also my Achilles Heel - I take these battle's personally, and find myself easily disappointed in the general narcissism of much of the blogging web.
I really appreciate all of what you all have said, and I have really enjoyed these months, but right now, it's just not any fun, with all the harassment and jockeying and link-mongering. I love my boys, but my life only contains a finite amount of fun these days, and I really don't want to add to more un-fun. In fact, I've come to think of blogging as existing in a hostile work environment ;-).
I sincerely thank everyone who has made offers to allow me to guest blog (and once again, I understand if those offers are retracted ;-D), but I think I'm going to go find something fun to do. Yesterday, I taught Sam and Grace how to plant patty pan squash and sunflowers, and water the transplants without drowning them. Made all of this seem trivial.
I may eventually be back, should blogging become enjoyable again. If so, I hope you all will find me again, and share your wisdom in exchange for my paltry commentary.
Posted by: MB at June 9, 2003 02:11 PMSay it ain't so, MB! One of the few bloggers who really talked about the importance of judicial nominations and the short shrift the administration is giving to the rights of people with disabilities, and who also had a hawk eye to the administration's economic bungling is being silenced. I find that tragic and hope you can be persuaded to return to the blogosphere sooner rather than later.
Until then,
Best wishes
I'll miss reading your blog dearly. Best wishes.
Posted by: Steve at June 10, 2003 11:35 AMi will truly miss your fierce spirit and your illumination of the BLS numbers. your Friday Flashbacks were truly inspired and much needed. i can only hope that we will hear your voice again, and as observer said, i hope it's sooner rather than later.
Posted by: DesertJo at June 10, 2003 07:35 PMMB, I too have often felt blogging to be more of a drag than the light-hearted escapade it used to be. I totally empathize with you and respect your decision, but really hope you change your mind!
Posted by: Plucky Punk at June 10, 2003 09:48 PMI can't express anything that hasn't already been said better by everyone else on this comment thread, so I'll just echo those who said they'll miss you terribly, Mary Beth.
